Battery pack not powering up.

PB960 shows it is fully charged, but will not turn on. Assuming the battery had failed, I purchased another pack, charged it and attached it to the pack. It also will not turn on. Is the problem with the top part of the battery pack?

Relay clicks, no power to starter

There are a couple of things that could be happening here, assuming you've checked the fuse. Firstly your battery might be almost out of charge, so there is enough power to throw the relay but not turn the starter. Secondly your starter motor could be jammed. To test this, first fully charge your battery or use a jump pack, if that doesn't work, then attach your start motor directly to a battery by putting the positive terminal on the bolt on the motor and the negative on the starter motor body. If still nothing happens then remove your starter motor and try the same again. If it fails to turn, you'll need to replace it. If it turns then there is a fault in the wiring between the relay and the motor.

My battery charges but only lasts about 20 minutes once it says it is fully charged. Just purchsed a new battery thinking it was old (laptop is about 3 years old) and the same thing happens.

From what you describe and assuming the new battery was "new", I'd say you have an internal short which is draining the battery over a short period of time. I'd also investigate the accuracy of the battery charge indicator. Download this free utility which will give you a more accurate picture of your battery:
http://www.mioplanet.com/products/batterymeter/

I'm assuming you gave the battery a "commissioning charge" when you bought and used it?
If not, this is something you should do with all new LI batteries. This bit is reproduced from a website that sells batteries for the Toshiba satellite series:

"2. The new Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack needs to be circled (fully discharged and recharged) three to five times to reach its optimum performance.
3. Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery will undergo self-discharging when left unused for a long period of time. Thus, it should always be stored in a fully charged state and kept in a cool, dry and clean place.
4. It is normal if the new Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery gets warm when being charged or used. However, please pay special attention if the battery pack becomes excessively hot. This may indicate there is a problem with the charging circuit of the electronic device. Please consult a qualified technician if necessary.
5. To maintain the optimum performance of Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack, it is highly recommended to circle (fully discharging and recharging) it at least once a month.
6. New batteries are hard to be charged. Sometimes, your electronic device may indicate a fully charged condition about 10 to 15 minutes when Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack is being charged for the first time. When this happens, remove the battery pack and let it cool down for about 10 to 15 minutes then repeat the charging procedure. Sometimes, the new Satellite a205-s4777 battery will suddenly refuse to be charged. If this happens, a suggested solution is trying to remove the battery from the device and insert it again. "

The initial battery of my Acer Travelmate 2480 packed up and I ordered and installed a new one. However, the laptop remains on "AC Only" power and the battery is not charged, giving a...

RTFM You can download the manual by googling "acer travelmate 2480 manual" (without the quotes). Or just click here

According to the Acer manual:

"Conditioning a new battery pack
Before you use a battery pack for the first time, there is a
"conditioning" process that you should follow:
1 Insert the new battery without turning the computer on.
2 Connect the AC adapter and fully charge the battery.
3 Disconnect the AC adapter.
4 Turn on the computer and operate using battery power.
5 Fully deplete the battery until the battery-low warning appears.
6 Reconnect the AC adapter and fully charge the battery again.

Follow these steps again until the battery has been charged and
discharged three times.
Use this conditioning process for all new batteries, or if a battery hasn't
been used for a long time. If the computer is to be stored for more
than two weeks, you are advised to remove the battery pack from the
unit.

Warning: Do not expose battery packs to temperatures below 0°C
(32°F) or above 60°C (140°F). Extreme temperatures may adversely
affect the battery pack.

By following the battery conditioning process you condition your
battery to accept the maximum possible charge. Failure to follow this
procedure will prevent you from obtaining the maximum battery
charge, and will also shorten the effective lifespan of the battery.
In addition, the useful lifespan of the battery is adversely affected by
the following usage patterns:
• Using the computer on constant AC power with the battery
inserted. If you want to use constant AC power, you are advised to
remove the battery pack after it is fully charged.
• Not discharging and recharging the battery to its extremes, as
described above.
• Frequent use; the more you use the battery, the faster it will reach
the end of its effective life. A standard computer battery has a life
span of about 500 charges."

I purchase s10-3 netbook. i had problem with its battery which only runs 2 hours if it is fully charged. please assist!

How long have you been using the netbook? If it's brand new, then your battery life is too short. First of all, remember the following for ensuring that your battery performance is optimal:
1. A new battery pack must be fully charged before it is put into use.
2. A new battery pack needs to be fully charged and discharged a few times before it starts performing at full capacity.
3. Batteries discharge when left unused. If you intend to store the netbook for a while, make sure that the battery is fully charged before you do so.
4. Fully drain and fully recharge your batteries every few months.

If your netbook is new, then try one or more of the following and see how your battery performance gets affected: 1. Turn down the LCD brightness of your portable device.
2. Use built-in power management on your portable device.
3. Turn off LCD or other unnecessary accessories when not in use.
4. Set screen saver blank to 1 to 2 minutes of your netbook.
5.. Add more RAM if you can, as this will reduce the usage of the hard drive which exhausts the power quicker.

Hope this helps.

When i try to power on my son's DS Lite, the red light is on, and both screens power on for about 2-3 seconds max and then the system shuts off. It also wont charge when connected to the wall.

You may need to get a replacement battery pack when the battery is below 30% the light will turn red, the battery requires 4 hours to charge, and when the battery is fully charged the amber colored light will turn off. If you still need to purchase a new battery contact nintendo cust serv at 800-255-3700 or you can order online at nintendo.com You will need a #00 philips screw driver to remove the battery cover, install the battery with the 2 tabs in first, close compartment and allow battery to fully charge before use. The average battery will last for about 500 charges. Hope this helps

Toshiba satellite A210 11-P crashes when i disconnect the power lead

From Toshiba, try step-charging the battery or Battery conditioning procedures:

Batteries don't last forever. All types of batteries gradually lose their ability to hold an electrical charge as they age. Eventually, the computer's battery charge indicator may show that the battery contains less than a full charge, even though the battery has just been fully charged. The computer will then not run for as long a time from the battery as when the battery was brand new.
You may prefer to simply replace the battery if this happens, but you may also wish to try 'step-charging' the existing battery per the following instructions.
This procedure should work for the battery in any Toshiba notebook. Follow it only when you find that the computer will run from the battery for just a short while.
Check the User's Guide for more specific information about charging the battery in your computer .

Procedure

Step-charging the computer's battery

  1. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer, and turn ithe computer on. Let the computer run from battery power until the computer turns off, indicating that the battery is fully discharged. Time this interval, but not with a software clock running on the same computer.

  2. Remove the battery pack from the computer.

  3. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

  4. Wait at least 30 seconds. The first time through this procedure, use a soft cloth to wipe the battery pack's contacts and the AC adapter's plug.

  5. Re-insert the battery pack.

  6. Plug into the AC adapter into the computer again and check the fit of its plug in the wall outlet, making sure the connection is secure.

  7. With the computer turned off, let the battery charge until the battery status light or icon glows green, or otherwise indicates a full charge.

  8. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

  9. Remove the battery.

  10. Wait at least 30 seconds, then re-insert the battery.

  11. Plug the AC adapter back into the computer.

  12. Let the battery charge again until the battery status light turns green or otherwise indicates a full charge, again.
Repeat this procedure, starting from step 1, at least three times. Each time, check to see if the computer runs longer from its battery than the previous time.

Battery Conditioning:
IMPORTANT!!
Interruptions in the charging cycle can be responsible for an issue called "memory effect" which may reduce the battery's charging capacity. Whenever you suspect the battery performance is not at it's optimum you should try using the following "Battery Conditioning" procedure.

Before you start: Turn off your battery saving features temporarily.

***IMPORTANT*** Repeat the following steps 2-3 times!

  1. Unplug the power cord from the computer
  2. Turn the computer on and let it run until it shuts itself off.
Note: Using the CD-ROM to play an Audio CD will speed the discharge.
  3. Plug in the power cord (While the system is off) charge the battery until the battery light changes from flashing green to solid green
  4. Remove the battery for 30 seconds and then replace it.
Note: If the battery light isn't lit, wait a few moments, if it still does not light check your power connections.
  5. Continue charging the battery until the battery light turns solid green once again.
    **REPEAT THIS PROCEDURE 3 TIMES**

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
