The drive would have to be formatted in order for the mac to use it. Then you'd lose all your photos. The drive can either work on the PC or work on the Mac. They are two different animals.
if you didn't save anything important yet on the drive go ahead and reformat the drive.
try and write data to it and retrieve it.
if it doesn't work as well return it.
What may be happening is it's conflicting drive letters.
Try this.. Plug in the drive. Right click on My Computer, choose Manage. Go to Disk Management under Storage.
Look for the WD drive there, it may have no drive letter associated with it. That would be the problem. Right click on the drive entry and choose Change Drive letter. Pick a Letter.
Exit out and open windows explorer and the drive should now show up.
I would like to know the way the Drive is connected to MAC. Have you connected it using USB or Firewire ? If you have connected it using Firewire, Try connecting it using USB 2.0 Cable.
load the driver for mac use, the external hard drive comes with cd, the mac driver should be inside, load it to your mac computer. if you donot have the cd go online to western digital and download it. just load the driver and u will be fine, make sure u connect the cable in right places.
I picked up a couple of My Books lately( via Ebay), and noticed that i can not get them to work on the Firewire interface with my Dual Core Intel Mac. Shows up on USB2.0 fine however.I found an online reference that said Apple changed some things on the Firewire interface year or two ago, and that vendors had to update their firmware (it related to Firewire devices reporting a unique ID to the Mac).
