Check alternator decoupler, thats new name for mechanical pulley. Pull serpentine belt and check if alternator pulley is a one way clutch. Should freewheel in opposite direction smoothly and lock up in drive direction. If it doesnt lock up in about 1-2mm of rotation, its bad and will cause a random squeak, usually at idle and when getting off the gas at any rpm.
If it's happening while driving and no brakes applied it's probably a belt causing the noise. There's a product available in most local auto shops that you can use to lubricate the belt. I think the actual name is "stop squeak" but I'm not positive. If it's squeaking while breaking you may need new breaks or your breaks may be too tight. Another product exists for breaking squeals available in your local auto shop
Very often the power steering belt can cause this noise if it is loose or just worn. The pump itself can cause a noise check and make sure it is full of fluid.
fan belts squeak for several reasons 1 incorrect belt for pulley.2 belt running on the botton of the pulley and worn pulleys. To check measure across the top part of the pulley and the widest part (back) of the belt should be the same if not marginally bigger. V belts work best at t5he top of the pulley. If you can see that the pulley is polished at the bottom the belt is slipping and not driving Check if the pulley sides where the belt runs is not stepped from wear. Recheck the tension as new belts stretch slightly. If you have a multi groove pulley check the tension setting. As a last resort CRC make a product that is used to stop belt but it is best to fix the real fault first
i have 96nissan pathfinder and belt squeaking when i start the engine and stop and start squeaking when iam driving and stop and come back it a new belt
Hi
Loks that your machine is pretty old and hence the belt has hardened making a squeaking noise.
Good fix is get a new drive belt.
OR
Quick fix is you could put some oil on the drive belt..... it will work for now but not a permenant solution.

I agree. Replace the battery first. It's under the back seat, which will lift up after undoing two screws in the front of the bottom of the seat. Remove negative terminal, remove positive terminal, lift old battery out, put in new one, attach positive terminal, attach negative terminal, reinstall seat, and you're done.
If that's not the issue, you may need to replace the alternator.
