There is a front access panel below your door that is held in place by 2 screws at the very bottom edge near the floor. Remove the screws and access panel. The drain pump on that model I think is at right front corner. To remove or clean it---unplug washer---unplug 2 wires to pump---remove/loosen 2 big hose clamps and pull rubber hoses off---and then remove 2 mounting screws holding pump to washer floor. Reverse procedure to reinstall.

Leaking anti freeze. But not from the radiator.??

If it is coming from the front of the engine and almost dead center, then probably the waterpump is going bad. The waterpump is located underneath the timing covers (2 pieces), and requires you remove the timing belt to change it. I can email you a procedure for removing and reinstalling the timing belt if you wish. Send a request to [email protected] if you decide to change the waterpump.

Waterpump is it b 4 the timeinbelt

waterpump is driven by the timing belt. Therfore when changing the timing belt, you must also replace the waterpump. It will be too much time consuming effort to replace one or the other. The labour calls for both these items to be replaced. Most shops will charge about$300 -500.0 plus both parts for this service..

Procedure on changing waterpump

  1. first drain the cooling system.
  2. loosen bolts on the waterpump pulley and remove the inner fender cover on the pass/side.
  3. remove the surpentine fan belt, note; make a diagram of the belt routing so belt will go back on the right way.
  4. remove the bolts you loosened on the pump pulley, use a pry bar to pry engine back to have enough room to remove the waterpump pulley.
  5. remove the bolts holding waterpump, you will want a pan under the van to catch coolant when waterpump is removed,
  6. remove the pump and clean old gasket off the block and install new pump,
  7. reverse to install new pump and fill system with coolant allow engine to run until thremostat opens, hope this is helpful. heres a few diagrams of the waterpump and the cover and the belt routing, good luck and hope this is helpful.

1996 cavalier overheating. I changed thermostat but seems like its not opening. Lower hose is cold but fan turns on. any ideas

Your next test should be checking the health of the waterpump. Even with a bubble in the cooling system, the bubble should not take up residence in the waterpump cavity and should pump some. Look for activity in the radiator after things have heated up. Do you see any circulation? If not, the vanes might have rotted off (rare problem). Before doing anything else, try to thoroughly clean the system, and replace the fluid with just water for further testing. I don't know how well the car has been cared for, so if nothing has been done to the cooling system since it was new, try taking the bottom hose off and look for sludge that has gathered there. Clean. Short of all that, disassemble the waterpump and look at it. After you've found the problem, of course replace the straight water with a mixture of water and the good stuff. (No straight antifreeze. More is not better because antifreeze is designed to work with water. Straight antifreeze has poor thermal conductance.) Good luck.

Water leakking from 5mm hole on side of water pump ford transit 1997

This is called a weep hole and it indicates the rubber seal is now leaking antifreeze onto the waterpump bearing and it's only a matter of time before the waterpump falls change the waterpump.
