Why are icons missing?

question --why are you hitting the start button on a unit that is open and ready to work
if as you say the desk top is showing and icons are showing then click on an icon and it will work

Download the image from Motorolla/Symbol support and put it on an SD card. Put the card in the slot underneath the keyboard. Do a cold boot and hold down the left scan button. Dock the scanner and keep holding the button. It will launch the image installer and take off on its own at which point you let go of the scan button.

Usually when I have this issue, if I empty my inbox, the icon comes back. I'm not sure why this should happen at all though, still trying to figure it out.

To enable those icons and more, right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Click on the Desktop tab and hit the Customize Desktop button. Next, under the General tab, check off any of the icons you want to appear on your desktop.

Boot the computer into safe mode. Run full-system anti-virus scans to ensure that the system is virus free and to remove any infections that may be present. Reboot system.

Instructions for booting into safe mode:
1) Start system
2) As system is starting, press F8 key
3) Boot menu will come up asking how you want to boot - choose Safe Mode and press ENTER
4) Your computer will start with limited services, no internet connection, etc. This will allow you to check the system and scan for viruses without interference from non-essential services.

does it shows any error or file missing while installation.

I used the manual keys to get to the alignment screen...
But the unit would not hold the settings.

Questions:

Have you tried the classic "hard boot"?

Do you have a WAN or LAN radio configuration?
Has the device worked for you in the past ... and no will not?

Until you answer my questions and I get back to you you might try pulling the battery out for 10 min or so... see if it reboots when you reinstall it

There are a couple of possibilities.

1. A cable has come loose inside the computer.

2. A cable has become defective.

3. The LCD is defective.

If you wiggle the LCD back and forth and you can get the picture to work again intermittently then answers 1 & 2 above would be more likely.
