I opened the TV, but no "switch" on the PCB to do a "reset to factory". ... You almost certainly need the remote, and also the service manual that .... and I was able to get into the menu by remote and to disable the Child lock.

Just had the same problem and used a cheap $4 universal remote with Magnavox code "0224" and it turned on! Hope this helps guys!

Put code in twice if it doesn't work the first time.

If the tV is strucked at child lock, you must have its original remote control to unlock it. Just contact the nearest Maganvox authorised service center for details.

I have a magnavox 27MS343S and it is child locked, tv is off and do not have the original remote and it wont turn on although the powered up red lighht is on. Tv has been reset to sleep mode by universal remote. What can be done?

What brand is your universal remote? Best thing would be to go on the universal remote manufactures website and they should have a list of codes for models based on what model number your universal remote is. Then you can look up possible codes for your tv found in the users manual (which you can print from online) and it gives you like 5-7 codes that you try and will give you instructions on how to enter the code and save that code to your remote. take ur tv to someone local who fixes tvs. they will have a magnavox remote. use the remote and press tv/av simultaneously pressing enter

I called Philips Magnavox to be sure because i have the same issue. Yes you do have to have the original remote and they do not sell it directly from the manufacturer.
