Two issues must be noted in this case.
First of all working the UPS continuously on the battery for more than the stipulated time of the design could generate problems especially if the heat sinks for the MOSFETS are insufficient. Secondly the charging circuit is designed along with the drain circuit and so you need to get the battery charged externally in parallel with a proper cut off circuit.
My suggestion to you is that Instead of this modification, it is better to get an UPS/Inverter of 500 VA which will easily work on the 1000AH battery, new designs are compact and efficient. You keep aside this short period UPS for a specific purpose or even connect this to the main UPS/Inverter.

Very BAD idea. 1. You don't need an external charger,perhaps an external monitoring device but defeating the internal charger assy will cause a fault in your system.
