Either bad motor, motor bearing, tub bearing or idler pulley (also broken motor mount). Unplug unit. Spin tub by hand. Try and feel if spins freely. If direct drive unit (no belts). Most likely tub bearing or motor. Remove rear panel. Inspect for damage (broken mounting parts). Turn tub by hand. Look for malfunction.

Frigidare Gltf1040as0

Good Afternoon Carrie,

I understand that you are hearing a loud noise in the spin cycle as well as water leaking from your Frigidaire washer, model# GLTF1040AS0.

You will commonly hear a high pitched "jet engine" noise during the spin cycle. If you are hearing a vibrating noise, it could be your washer is not resting firmly on the floor. With this you will adjust the leveling legs so the washer is level. If after leveling your washer you are still receiving a vibrating sound, you might want to redistribute the wash load inside your appliance.

If after you redistribute the wash load, you are still hearing a loud noise in the spin cycle, I suggest contacting a local authorized technician.

For the leak I recommend contacting a technician. This way they are able to find where the leak might be coming from and repair it before there is any damage done to your appliance. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

LG WM3987HW Washer Spining very wild

I've just uploaded a service manual.

relevant info pasted below: --

Regulate a specific spin speed that generates excessive vibration and noise as follows:
1) Put an unbalance part (rubber) inside of the drum.
(this is a special weight that service people use. It clips into the drum. If you don't have it, throw in about 4 to 6lbs of damp laundry.)

2) Start the QC test mode (Refer to section 7-2).
7-2 says turn the washer off, then press 'spin speed' and 'soil level' at the exact same time. Then, while holding both buttons, press power to start "QC test mode"

3) Press Delay Wash button, then ' tst ' is displayed on lcd
4) Press the Spin Speed button repeatedly to select Extra High.
5) Press the Quick Cycle button, the spin speed is displayed.
6) Press the Start/Pause button.
7) Press the Beeper button repeatedly to set spin speed (600, 800, 1000, 1200 rpm) and check if there is vibration
and noise.
8) If there is no vibration and noise, increase the spin speed by pressing Beeper button.
9) If there is vibration and noise, rotate the Cycle selector knob clockwise to reduce the Spin Speed (reduce by 50
and 100 rpm). In case of 600 rpm, it can not reduce the spin speed.
10) If vibration and noise are reduced, press the Quick Cycle button to store (2 beep sounds).
* If you want to return to factory default spin speed setting, repeat above steps except step 9)

FRIGIDARE FRONT LOAD WASHER,2+YRS OLD ON FINAL HIGH SPEED SPIN MACHINE MAKES LOUD VIBRATION NOISE AND FIND NEED TO SHUT DOWN DUE TO FRANTIC VIBRATION AND NOISE.

It is possible the bearings on the motor that spins the canister could be going bad especially at the high speed. This could also be from clothes getting unbalanced in the final spin cycle. Hope this helps. This could still possibly under warranty!

Extra Spin cycle?

(I know this is an old question, but its probably a common question for new owners - including me a couple of weeks ago...)

Power the unit back on, press the spin speed button and it will select the "drain and spin" cycle. Pressing the spin speed button again will select different spin speeds as well as just "drain".

Something you might try instead of medium spin speed is to turn on "SpinSense". To turn this on (and off), press and hold the "Stain Cycle" button for 3 seconds while any wash program is in process.

What SpinSense does is measure the imbalance by doing a very slow spin before cranking the spin speed up (and measuring how constant the very low spin speed is). If the balance is out too much, it will stop, let the clothes drop, and then try another slow spin. It will try this over and over many times until the balance is decent. Then it will let it rip. It makes a huge difference, but it can spend a lot of time getting a good balance some times.

SpinSense also seems to be able to detect if the machine is shaking terribly, shut the spin down and try again.

Our LG 2688 is on our 1st floor (wooden floor). Without SpinSense, the vibration was terrible and with it, it is tolerable.

For some reason we typically get less vibration with "Extra High" spin speed compared to "High" so that is another option you might try.
