The best way to identify a tractor is by the serial number. Serial numbers on the 9N-2N and 8N tractors are located on the left side of the engine block, just below the head and behind the oil filter. IDENTIFICATIONhttp://www.just8ns.com/Identifying-Your-Ford-Tractor.html
The serial number alone is not enough to determine the year unless you also include the maker and the model number. Even then it may not be possible, but without that information there is not enough criteria to figure it out.
For example, if the tractor was made by Sears then you probably could narrow down the year based upon the years of production of that particular model at Sears.
Sometimes the year is embedded in the serial number, but the algorithm for determining that is based upon the maker and the model...there is no universal serial number to model year conversion... And in some cases the serial number has nothing to do with the model year... It literally can be a randomized number that's ensured/verified to be unique... However in that case the company may have a database that they can look it up and tell you.
my recommendation is to call the company that manufactured it and give them the model number and the serial number and they will probably be able to tell you... If they can't, chances are there is no easy way to figure it out.
very few serial numbers give indication of year of manufacture
a year of manufacture will show when a serial number began but will not tell how many years variations of that serial number ran for
for example in 1990 a serial number 0010101 was started for the first item produced but after 10 years the serial number will be 00101999 so 001011596 will not show a year of manufacture just that it was produced between 1990 and 2000
to add more confusion
in your particular question example a model 7800576 could have been produced in 3 different countries and the serial number will be from any one of those countries as each set of serial numbers will denote which country it was made in
may be it you contacted the manufacturer technical division, they may be able to provide a matrix that will answer your question better

"Find the REAL serial number
There are usually a lot of different numbers on a tractor. The engine, front axle, and cab may all have their own serial numbers. Various components may have parts or casting numbers. Make sure you have actually found the tractor serial number, and not one of these other numbers."
Normally the model number was under the seat or on the back hitch plate. You might be able to do an ebay search for the tractor to research the model number if you cant find it. Yes the diff can be locked but you would have to take the transaxle apart and weld the axles to the gear carrier. Al ot of trouble and if you did this it would make the tractorvery hard to turn, antifreeze in the tires or wheel weights might be a better idea. The serial number would tell you the age of the tractor.Newer serial numbers read like this 030605bxxxxxx. Date is march 06 2005. Older serial numbers read like this 1910Sxxxxxxx one hundred ninety first day of 1990.
