Yard pro lawn mower

I need a little more info. Start by following the pos lead from battery, this should eventually lead you right to solenoid. If not your solenoid may be right on the starter itself. Hope this helps.

Cub Cadet Riding Mower LT 1046 have to jump, but won't stay running

Check the bottom of the carburetor for a little solenoid. If it has one, the battery may be dead enough that it can't keep the solenoid open causing the carb to shut off the fuel flow causing the unit to die. The easiest way to check if it works is by turning the key to the run position and listen and/or feel for the solenoid to click. If it clicks it is working and there is another problem, if it doesn't then replace it. I recommend having the battery tested or replaced too

My MTD Yard machines riding mower won't start.

Probably dead gas from sitting too long. Dump it out & put in fresh gas.Could have moisture in it. Pull out spark plug & crank it over several times after putting gas & let it sit a while to dry out or blow it out with compressed air. It should go.

Hi Bill

When you try to start it without the jump, does it turn, just click or do nothing?

Check the battery terminals for corrosion. Put a charge on it.
The battery could be at the end of its useful life

Has the mower been sitting idle for any length of time?

The gas may have gone bad.

With the aid of a jump, spritz a little starting ether or carb cleaner on to the carb and then try it. If it starts and dies, try it again.

If you can't get it to stay running, replace the gas.

Comment back with your findings.

Mike

Cub Cadet zero turn will not start with the key

basically you fixed it youself
if your solenoid is engageing and your wiring is clean and tight from the battery positive to one side of the solenoid and from the other side of the solenoid to the starter?
then you need to replace your solenoid.

STARTING PROBLEMS

Either the igniton is bad or the wires are backwards. You can bypass the ignition and touch the wires together to see if the solenoid turns. You can also use an ohmmeter/voltmeter to check the current.

Won't crank--some kind of electrical problem

Disconnect the (battery) starter cable and check with a multimeter the continuity of the starter relay thru the relay terminals which connect the battery to the starter (key will have to be turned to start) -- if you get continuity, it's likely not the relay, but I'm with you, it sure sounds like the relay (solenoid).

P.S. Running a starter directly off a charger is a good way to burn up a charger.
