Typically when this occurs, it is an indication of a short circuit in the motor controller board. To test to make sure the problem is in the board

1) Unplug the treadmill from the wall.

2) Remove the motor hood.

3) Unplug the speed wires from the board. On many boards, you will have 2 to 3 wires that control speed and many are labeled H, W, and L. If you cannot find the speed wires, do not guess, contact us with your make and model number and we will try to help you with the wiring.

4) Return the treadmill to a usable position once the speed wires are disconnected and plug the treadmill back in.

5) If the treadmill begins to run at full speed, the motor control has failed and requires replacement.

6) If the treadmill does not run at full speed you could have a speed input problem, wiring problem, or another short circuit.

SOURCE: Pro-Form Sport 1000 treadmill does not stop inclining

Do a Calibration on the treadmill. Take out the safety key. With 2 fingers, hold down the stop button and the speed up or spped plus button. keep holding them down as you insert the safety key, then let go of both.
Press the stop button 1 time, you should see all 0's in the windows, or EP 2P or something weird like that.
Press the Incline up button and then wait. If the incline go up until it stalls then down until it stalls the stops at the bottom, the you are recalibrated, take out the safery key and put it back in to see if all is well. If the incline takes off up again without touching a button, the you have wiring problems or control problems. Call service company to get it repaired.

SOURCE: pro form 520 treadmill

I know this thread is a little old, but did you get your treadmill working? I have a 550e that does the same thing. The company has sent me 2 controller boards, but still doesn't work.

SOURCE: describe how to unfold a treadmill, pro form ex

Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand on the back end of the unit. Using your left hand, pull the lock knob to the left and hold it. Pivot the treadmill down until the frame is past the pin on the lock knob. Note: You may need to push the handrail to the side slightly. 2. Move in front of the back end and hold the treadmill firmly with both hands, and lower the treadmill to the floor. CAUTION: To decrease the possibility of injury, bend your legs and keep your back straight

This unit just goes into high speed mode automatically when plugged into AC power. I think the main mcu board is the problem. At first the unit ran OK but would come and go, short bursts. The belt would go...

This condition is when the treadmill goes to full speed as soon as you power up the treadmill.

Typically when this occurs, it is an indication of a short circuit in the motor controller. Be sure to test the motor for a short-to-ground condition. If a motor shorts completely, it can cause a controller to short circuit and have a runaway condition like this. Be sure to test the other electrical part to confirm they do not have a short-to-ground condition.

Even if your treadmill runs away only one time and then returns to normal operation, we suggest replacing the motor control immediately because it is a dangerous proposition when this malfunction occurs and has been show to have quick recurrence with the same controller.

Check out The treadmill Doc. Fantastic site and great people to do business with. A lot of helpful trouble shooting information for free! I'm betting it is the motor control board. Site will lead you through step by step instructions to check and fix it yourself. I saved a ton of money and with a little know how and good information you can too.

I have a Sears Pro Form 730si. The treadmill

I believe E4 on ths 730si means that the speed of the motor the sensor is detecting is greater than the set speed. E2 would be the opposite. I believe there is a way to calibrate the speed. Look at the smaller motor controller board.
