Is it a front loader? You may have something stuck between the tubs or it may be a broken "paddle" One of the plastic baffles that move the clothes around in the tub. they should all be tightly against the tub.

Sorry, by "paddles" I meant the baffles or lumps that are fitted to the bowl that break up and untangle the clothes as they are tumbled around the bowl. If its a belt drive front loader, it could be a part of the belt has frayed and thumping as its turning the tub.
I will check when I get home but gut feeling tells me is not a loose paddle. It sounds like something is loose inside unit, even though drum is empty.
The worst thing that can happen on a front loader is "spider" or bearing failure. The Spider is the 3 legged mount and shaft assembly that goes through the back of the tub and is mounted behind he spin bowl. If 1 or more of the arms has broken, the machine will usually clunk on wash and on spin it makes a hell of a racket. Grab the front of the spin bowl and see if there is any up and own movement at a few different points around the bowl. You shouldn't get any movement.
I don’t feel any unusual up/down movement other than the normal give/take of the bow. I did notice the noise only occurs when the bowl rotates clockwise. It doesn’t occur counter-clockwise.
If its a belt drive machine, remove the belt and see if there is still a noise. That way, you can determine if its the bowl or the motor that is making the noise.
