Charlene: According to https://www.briggsandstratton.com/us/en/support/faqs/engine-backfire-afterfire " What causes a small engine backfire & how do I fix it? Backfire typically occurs when the engine is decelerated rapidly.

Common Causes of Backfire:

Lowering engine speed too fast
Gasoline, which contains higher blends of alcohol
Carburetor adjustment set too lean
Muffler construction can induce backfire
Higher than normal engine temperatures
Some carburetors can induce backfire due to the sensitivity of internal transitional passages
(This condition cannot be corrected).

Possible Fixes for Backfiring:

Lower engine speed slowly
Follow small engine fuel recommendations and/or switch to brands with low or no alcohol
Adjust carburetor for optimum performance
Inquire with equipment manufacturer about increasing air volume to decrease engine temperature"

Could be a bad exhaust valve seat, sticking exhaust valve and possibly a lean running carburetor which is causing the engine to stall out on loads.

Overfilled lawn mower and now it is will not start.and when i try to start it it start for 2or 3 sec and stall out and oil come out of the exhaust.

Overfilled with gas or oil? More in likely you tilted your mower over to far to the air fllter side. The oil has soaked your air filter with oil. Change the airfilter and wipe spark plug off.Once it fires up it will smoke untill it burns the oil out carb. Remember never lean mower to air filter side..Good luck

I have a craftsman 775 series mower and it fires up fine right on the first pull then slowly dies, I noticed that the throttle isn't holding its position and once it kicks back it dies. Any suggestions?

If you restart it immediately after it stalls will it run for a lot less time then if you leave it for a few minutes?
I'm thinking the needle valve or seat are screwed up by this Ethanol gas and the flow of gas to fill up the Fuel bowl is slower than it should be. I just went through this.

Does it backfire or fire out the exhaust? If it is the exhaust you need your valve clearance adjusted. The carb usually means either a bent flywhell key or a failing ignition coil.

Troy bilt riding lawn mower runs when its cold but backfires when it heats up

Sounds like you have a valve that is sticking open when it's hot. If your intake valve is not closing all the way when the engine fires, then it will "fire" back out thru the intake instead of the exhaust valve. You will probably need to have a professional look at it, as valves can be very tricky.

Other possible causes include: Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn't work, you might need a new fuel filter.
