Check on top of the indoor unit. On some models, the filter will slide out from there without having to open the cabinet. On others you will need to pull on the top front and the panel will swing down (it will be hinged) and the filter will be behind that panel.
You definately want the compressor to shut on and off with the demand set by the thermostat. It is no different than a full size home split heating and cooling system. You set the thermostat for the temperature you want and then you let the system decide when to run the compressor
In every model there different location of manual button. Some manual button are located in front of the indoor and some are at the back of the front grille near the control board.
But the other units is ok. What seems to be the problem?
