I have a red flashing symbol in view finder next to the Battery symbol. It looks like the end of a lens with a + symbol and a / mark through it. Any idea

Hi Joe, I'm Mark. The small scope on top of your big scope is called the "finder" scope. Probably 2X or 4X. It should have cross hairs in the view. Find the moon with it. It will also require focusing but since the moon is bright, you can get an idea where it is in the lens by that. Next. Find the LOWEST power eyepiece to insert into the lens holder. And rotate the focus knob. Hopefully, you will see some bright blurry thing and then you can focus on it. After you get it in focus, put on a more powerful lens and look at the craters on the moon. Note: You will need to adjust your telescope to the earth's rotation. Your scope should have instructions for accomplishing this. Hope this helps, Best, Mark
A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).
To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.
The red flashing symbol means that the backup battery needs to be replaced. I'm not sure that it is what is preventing recording, but you can change it and see if it works.
The backup battery is a CR2025 button battery. It is located under a square plastic cover, beneath the main battery. Take the main battery off and you should see this cover. The backup battery should be installed with the + facing out.
Right, this is the info that you need. To remove and replace the battery door you need to follow 15 steps in the correct order, they are:
Remove the two screws (above lens) that hold on the flash cover. Remove the flash cover Remove the three screws on the view finder cover Remove the view finder cover Remove the two screws on the side of the battery compartment Remove the two screws in the middle of the base of the camera Remove the sliding cover on the left hand side of the lens Remove the single screw on the left hand (curved) part of the camera case Remove the single screw on the bottom left hand side of the casing Remove the trim piece on the right of the camera next to the lens, the top has a sticky pad under it so will be difficult to lift up. Remove the screw behind the trim plate Remove the back casing
The flap should now be replaceable, if you do not feel comfortable with this then get a professional shop to do it.
Sounds like a lens diaphragm problem ( lens stays closed down to F16 and that is why you have a dark viewfinder ). Remove lens and see if you can activate the aperture mechanism via the activator which protrudes from the rear of the lens. You should get nice and brisk action from the aperture . If the movement is sluggish or the lens stays fully closed then your lens needs attention.
at the back of the camera next to the view finder (bottom right hand corner) is a button and icon marked SEL.
pressing this button toggles the lens image from the view finder to the lcd screen and back again.
IF neither view is available then I suspect your camera needs some TLC at a repair shop.
hope this helps.
