SOURCE: Magnavox 50" plasma Won't Power on/Shut's off/Blinking red LED
The above fix, listed by Tom saved us!! We did as instructed and took off the back of our 50 inch Magnavox plasma tv. We were not sure what we were looking for so we googled capacitator (image) & there was a photo of a fried capacitator! Sure enough we noticed ours were "fried", we took out the board and went to an electronic supply store, bought the 2 capacitators ($2.00 each!!) and then found someone who did tv repair to sauter the new capacitators onto the board. (It is important someone who know how to sauter and recognizes polarity do do this for you) All in all we fixed this following the above instructions for $34.00 and our time. For a month we were told to spend hundreds getting a new power board!
Kudos to you Tom & thanks so much!!

It's a power supply related problem. When it turns itself off, this it called protection mode. The TV automatically turns off to protect other parts form being damaged.
The most common problem is the Power Supply Unit or the Backlight Inverter Board.
You may have to take the TV to a repair shop to find out which one is bad. Paying a repair shop to replace the board for you maybe more than the TV is worth. If you let them diagnose it and you replace the bad circuit board yourself, it would be cheaper.
Here's a place I use to get parts for TVs:

The problem is the repair shop may charge you double or three times of what the part costs at the web site link above. Then, plus labor. I just want to save you money. :)

Please recheck Lamp Cover and make sure it is fixed in its space securely as 3 times red blink shows lamp cover error.
There is small safety switch in TV cabinet under lamp cover that has to be pushed by lamp cover if it is fixed in its position properly. That switch is not being pressed by lamp cover and causing this error.
Thanks.

I have one of these TV's for my computer monitor. One of the micro capicitor chips have went bad. Plug in a USB cable into the service port (from a laptop or desktop computer) and press the power button. The TV will power on. Remove the USB cable from the service port. You will have to do this every time you want to turn it on.
You would have to get a new controller board inside the TV to fix it, and it's not really worth it. From some forums, they go bad just as quick. The issue hasn't been resolved
