Maytag dryer, LDG9334, won't start to rotate, burning smell

It is possible that the motor start/run capacitor has failed, rendering the motor unable to get going. The capacitor will look something like this

The heating element is working or the belt is slipping.
the drum does NOT turn?
See manual. un plug and pop the front off to see if the belt is attached.. Try to rotate the drum by hand.

Some item may have gotten between the drum that rotates and the housing and during the rolling of the drum this item may be heating up from the friction. Check closely to see if you can find anything rubbing on the drum.

Sounds like drum is locked and motor is running and burned the belt. Try to spin drum by hand, Might check drum ends felt seals, Teflon bearing strips located on the bottom lip of front drum end for wear causing drag. Also check 2 drum support wheels to see if they spin freely, take the belt off motor pulley and spin drum by hand, if easier & motor runs drum is dragging. How is the spring on tensioner, does tensioner pulley spin free? Hope this helps locate the problem.

sounds like motor is in a bind see if you can rotate drum by hand if you cant then your belt is hung up,or a belt pully is bad,if drum turns freely,sound like motor is going bad

try and spin drum by hand

the drum should run free if not the bearing have gone and seized they will need to be replaced. hear is a video there are others you can find the bearing kit on line using the model number https://youtu.be/WGolkFlgl3Y

Something is keeping the motor from starting properly. Does it start more consistently with an empty drum? The burning could be the belt slipping because the drum cannot turn. May need a belt and drum support pulleys or could be more serious. Complete diagnosis requires hands on.

Motor going bad. Run windings inside are burneded up.  Start windings are ok. replace motor.
