I was watching tv then all of the sudden the screen went black. I can still hear sound but no picture. If I take a flashlight I can see images on the tv but otherwise it is black. Is this an inverter board problem. I have RCA led46c45rq 46

Hi it sounds like it has had an elctric fault like a resistor failing.
The click you heard would be a internal switch that cuts off the elctric supply to the screen to stop furthe damage hapening.
It could even be something simple like a bad solder and in that case will need locating and resoldering.
How old is the telly and how often is it used.
When you switch it off leave it off for about an hour then try again if you have allready done this then it probably is a blown resistor are you sure nothing has been pressed on controll have you tried seeing if you can acess the menu screen via the remote and see if that comes up on the screen let me know ok

I learned recently that, since I purchased mine with a VISA card, VISA automatically doubled my warranty to extend it to a second year. Hope this helps someone else.

If the picture faded over time and then went out completely....you have a bad digital main board. Hope this helps.

Your mainboard is damaged, replace it and that will solve your issue.

Best to replace both at the same time . Yes they are easy if you can find the parts.

From what ive read, you have a problem with LED lights or the board powering them. Depending on the cost of the tv, age of it, and how comfortable you are with a multimeter and possibly a soldering iron, you have several options.
1) if its old and only cost a couple hundered bucks, (and your current financial status allows) then buy a new one.
2) take it to a repair shop and have them look at it and fix it. Might cost a few bucks and you have to weigh that against the cost to replace it, but it is a solid option.
3) If parts are still available and you know how to use a multimeter, use it to try and determine where the fault is. more than likely its the internal power supply as LEDs tend to last a while and having them all go bad at the same time is unlikely. If this is the case, then replace the entire power board.
4) If you are really comfortable with testing circuit boards and know how to solder, use the multi-meter to find the exact part that is faulty and replace just that part on the power supply.
Please only do the last two steps if you are really comfortable rooting through electronic innards. There are capacitors in there that store enough electricity to badly hurt or possibly kill you if you short them on accident.
As much as I hate e-waste, Judging by the age of the tv and the cost of current tvs, it would probably be best to just replace it if you can afford it. Walmart has decent tvs that will only set you back a couple hundered and costco and sams club have slightly better than decent for the same price point, provided you have a membership.
Good luck with this and all future endeavors, regardless of what they happen to be.
