What is an error code 7?

On this model of SpO2 monitor from Medline, the "err 7" means the sensor has reached its end of life functionality... Basically it means it is time to buy another SpO2 monitor. I have a dozen of these in a rehab facility and have to swap them out every couple of years when I get this error code. I found this out a few years ago from Medline Support. This is why the warranty is 2 years (works out well that way, don't you think?). Hope that helps out some.. sorry for the bad news...Thanks!Stan Skaggs

My mother has a Digit Pulse Oxymeter and I was wondering how one knows if the %oxygen is reading correctly. Lately all her readings are always 97%. Very little variation.

The normal oxygen saturation in the body read by the any pulse oximeter whether it is portable or built in type is 95%-100%. If ***********'s oxygen reading as you have said is 97% definitely it is within the normal range. You can also check and make sure that your oximeter is working by placing the oximeter to your finger. If the pulse read by the oximeter is the same with your heartbeat it means that is working alright and the oxygen reading would fall between 95-100%. I hope my answers will help you.

While connected it says "please check connection and try again"

A few things could be going on.
First the unit
1. Remove and replace the battery to "reset" the unit.
2. If the batteries are old, they might need replaced.
3. If it has been used and is dirty, clean the sensors.
Second the finger
1. If there is poor circulation from: low heart rate, poor circulation, or cold fingers, the unit will have difficulty.
2. Dark pigmented skin can cause errors.
3. Fingernail polish will cause errors.
Here is some more info for your finger oximeter

Torn yellow ribbon - Model 950 Respironics Oximeter

I sounds like the wire that connects on of the sensors is severed. If your still under warranty, I would contact respironics for a replacement or repair. The wires are normally soldered to the sensors so if your have the equipment and ability, you can try to install new wires. Look for a red light if you don't see it where the finger goes, your suspicions are probably confirmed. Most the time we find it easier to replace the oximeter. Here is a site that allegedly has all the finger oximeters available

No reading for the blood oxygen level

OK - I had the exact same problem. I cleaned the inside of the oximeter with a cotton swab and denatured alcohol. Then tried it. It did not work. Darn. But I tried it an hour later, and suddenly, it started to work perfectly. I do not know what went wrong, and why it did not work immediately after cleaning. Maybe it was still damp from the alcohol? Unlikely, but I cannot figure out anything else. Anyway, try that and see if it solves the problem for you, and if the oximeter does not work for the first hour or so after cleaning, don't give up on it. Good luck.
