Check your batteries, but otherwise it could be a power board. It could cost between $90 - $125 to replace the board

On our panasonic DMC - SZ6, the lense cover won't open when turned on

Lens covers are delicate things. A bit of dust or dirt inside and the the springs can't do their job. When cleaning doesn't work, to repair this I remove the lens cover and shorten the springs by cutting off a bit and then reattaching them. A small bit of mollyd to lubricate helps too. never use oil or silicone.

I have a panasonic DMC-f3 digital camera and when i turnede it on today it came up with "This memory card is write-protected" on the screen. What does this mean?

It's the memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

Can I take apart the lens and clean it myself? It got sand in there from the beach.

Sure you can take it apart. The more important question is, "can you put it back together again?" These autofocus zoom lenses are extremely complex inside, and everything is tiny. I used to take apart older film camera lenses which are very simple and bulky by comparison, but I still ruined a few.

It may be that the camera cannot be professionally repaired at an economical price, in which case there is no reason not to have a go yourself, but I would go into it in a spirit of adventure and exploration, without expecting to fix the problem.

Panasonic DMC-FZ7 digital camera.

I believe the FZ7 determines that the lense cap is still on when it can't extend the zoom lense because the lense cap is in the way. I would check to see if your zoom lense housing is somehow stuck (could be sand or dirt in it) which is creating enough resistance to make the camera think the lense cap is impeding the zoom lense from extending.
