Hoover DYN 8144D Electrical fault/Crackling noise when power is applied
This washing machine tripped yesterday seemingly spontaneously. A new fuse was fitted and then the machine was plugged back in, only to hear a electrical crackling/emitting noise. We don't leave the plug in long enough for it to trip, but the eletrical noise seems too dangerous to leave on to see if there's a error code, providing the screen actually comes on if left on. What could be causing this ?
any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Crackling certainly doesn't sound good. How many days past warranty.
Contact them, " 2 weeks ago my washing machine stopped working, I was going on a business trip, and couldn't do anything about it. I checked the fuse and it had blown. I replaced the fuse and it still doesn't work. When the machine failed it was in warranty, please come and fix".
If not, the most likely issue for 'crackling' would be the control board or the motor, leaning slightly to the control board as it has no power visible to it. A failed motor would have power to the board, but nothing happening.
When it comes to home electrical make sure that when you plug into a electrical socket that the plug is tight in the socket. If the plug is not tight in the socket, have the socket replaced with a new socket.worn out sockets can trip breakers, throw sparks and cause fires.
Sounds like electrical leakage to earth operating a circuit breaker, this can be caused by many things however perhaps most common is the Heater in the machine, disconnect both wires to this bottom of the drum then try machine to see if it powers up, if yes then get/fit new heater .
Having never seen this machine before I looked it up on the internet it may be a blown fuse or a tripped RDC which is equivalent to a American GFI which needs to be reset if tripped. I found the manual at this web site User manual HOOVER H160E good luck with your repair
Have you tested the actual path from the breaker box? Meaning have you made sure that you have the amp breaker? Have you put an ohm meter on the "dead wire" (make sure there is no power on the leads and test the copper)? Have you made sure that the power neutral and power ground are not swapped (there is a test plug that is cheaply bought at the hardware store)? Have you check the wiring diagram for the machine and made sure the machine is wired right (found online usually)?
ok I assume from what you are say that the circuit breaker in the consumer unit (fuse box) trips it could be that the circuit breaker is beginning to fail (they can go weak after prolonged use) and will tend to be a problem on high load appliances the water heater will take around 12.4 amps as will the dryer heater get the circuit breaker changed
Possible that the control panel is short and so is tripping the fuse. Remove the connection to the panel and check if there is short , also remove the motor and check and this can confirm the case.
This is related to a fault in the main control panel, it is possible there is a short if the fuse keeps tripping off. You need to remove plug and pull out the panel to check for short in the power supply to the main control panel usually a SMPS unit. Use a multimeter to check for short, if so this must be replaced. check for tips from the link below: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7/1298/how-to-replace-washing-machine-controls-hotpo.html
It seems you may have an Electrical Insulation Break Down fault with your machine.
My suggestion would be to get a Registered Appliance Technician to test the internal circuit of the machine before attempting to switch on the appliance or rectify any fuses.
The appliance needs to be issued with a (PAT) test first to determine if the appliance is safe to touch when applying power to the machine so you dont electrocute your self.
Once the (PAT) test has been applyed then the technician can visually inspect the high voltage internal parts that could be the result of the insulation break down.
I strongly suggest if any kitchen appliance trips the main fuse for any reason I would recommend not trying to change any fuses as this second atempt to reboot the machine may have blown the machines 'Power Control Module'!
