VR function of Sigma 150-500 lens won't work on my Nikon D5300!!!

I bought this sigma 150-500 for my Nikon D5300 through website. But when I attached it on my camera I noticed that VR (vibration reduction is not working. After some research on internet I came to know that firmware of lens is not supported.and sigma company is offering free firmware upgrade. But would not be possible for me right now. I want to know if there is any other way that I can make my lens work on d5300. Any modification on circuit board of lens can be managed. Anyone who can guide me . I think some looping on circuit board must be there and possible. Please guide and help.

You have two options at the moment
A) USB dock firmware upgrade
B) sigma service centre repair if parts available
A home hatchet job on the lens NOT A HOPE yet as no one desperate enough yet to wreck their lens in the attempt
My advice sell the lens or the body and use the previous Nikon model that works

How can I determine which Sigma and Tamron lenses will work with my Nikon D3200? (I know they have to fit my Nikon F mount.)

There are three things you have to consider when getting lenses for the D3200.

First, you already know that the lens has to have the Nikon F mount.

Second, in order to autofocus, the lens must have a focus motor since the D3200 doesn't have one itself. Sigma designates lenses with the focus motor as HSM. Tamron designates theirs as USD. Lenses that don't have the focus motor will still work with the D3200, you just have to focus manually.

Third, the lens must have the electronics to communicate with the camera in order for the exposure meter to work. Any Sigma or Tamron lenses designed for digital cameras will have the electronics. Older mechanical lenses, including those from Nikon, will still work with the D3200, but you must set the exposure manually, without any help from the camera's light meter.

Here are 3 pictures of a Sigma lens for Nikon. Your lens should look about the same. Could be a little less connection points, but notice there is no plastic.

D5100 won't power on with Sigma macro lens atttached

This is not a solution but the same kind of problem.

I just bought a Nikon D5100 and found that my Sigma 105mm macro has a problem. The camera will not power up, but if I turn it on, untwist the lens and then twist it back in, the camera powers up. If I leave it for a few seconds, it powers down again. Provided I keep taking photos, it works, but this is not acceptable because it can take several seconds to get a focus on a close-up, and by time I get the focus, the camera powers down again.

I never had any problems with this lens on my Nikon D80. I also use several lenses, all of which work well with both cameras. It's only the Sigma that has the problem. And I did clean the contacts with a proper contact cleaning solution and a swab, but still no joy. My lenses are made by Tamron, Pro Optic, Nikon and Sigma, and the only problem lens is the Sigma.

I have the sigma 70-300mmD i just bought for my nikon D40 and i am having trouble with the auto focus. it will not autofocus can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong and or where i can download the...

The Nikon D40 does not have an autofocus motor, relying on the lens having one. This Sigma lens does not have such a motor, relying on the camera having one. Nikon designates lenses with an autofocus motor AF-S, Sigma calls theirs HSM.

Bought a Sigma DG 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 autofocus for my Nikon D40. When the lens is attached the settings get locked on MF. Is there anything I need to adjust to fix this problem? Charles

The Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG will not autofocus with the D40 since the lens does not feature an internal focusing motor (HSM). The D40 does not have an AF motor in the body and hence it can autofocus only with lenses featuring an integrated motor (eg. Nikon AF-S lenses, Sigma HSM lenses, Tokina DX II series etc). Unfortunately you can use the said lens only in MF mode.

Fitting a Sigma Lenset to Nikon D40

You have to make sure you bought the sigma lens with a NIKON mount. Sigma makes a Sigma mount as well as a Canon mount, of course neither of those mounts will work with your camera. Also you must also make sure your lens is the Sigma 70-300 HSM (/Hyper Sonic Motor) or it will not AF on the D40. I just bought this lens from Abes of Maine and I love it on my D40.
