Re: I have a picture but no sound! Is this something...
Yes.. check sound on all ch. with different inputs also. If no sound anywhere check wires going to speakers.. if they are good.. most likely you amp is bad.. most are built into the media board.. some are not.. check out shopjimmy.com

Common LG LCD TV REPAIR - NO PICTURE OR BLACK SCREEN FIX ... came on good with green light working properlybut still no picture.
If you are willing to take a chance...and you have some technical skills you may be able to repair it. I was able to replace 2 capacitors on my power board for under $5. I had no picture, no sound. Not saying that is what is your problem. Search the internet for your model number and no picture. I see several youtubes on yours as well.
If you can solder, YES, just replace the Vertical IC and check for any cold solder joints and open supply resistor. If not, it's not a major repair for a pro.
Popping sounds from electronic devices is never a good sign. It generally means that something was shorted out inside the item. You will need to bring it to a qualified technican for repair or buy a new monitor.
It sounds like it is time for a new TV, unfortunately. Nowadays you can get a new one for about the same as your repair costs would be. If you smell something burning you probably smoked a circuit board.
Sounds like you've got a vertical deflection problem causing the shrunk picture and finally a solid bright line. As to the loss in brightness you may be losing screen voltage to your picture tube.
Probably it is time to shop for a new tv since cost of repairs may be too much.

The fact that you smell something burning tell Us a part is cooked, sometimes is easier to find them because you can see they are degraded, this things happen for no reason but I dont think is the picture tubes that went bad,by the description it might be something simple,if the picture quality was good before is likely worth repairing it.The repair will involve removing the defective part and then soldering in the new one,be safe and call for assistance from a servicer at least for an estimate.
Sorry nto tell ya that something must have happened to the lcd screen or display. Has it been dropped ?? If you hold it up to a light do you see an image but no brightness as could also be a backlight problem . My advice would be to see if theres any type of warrantee on the unit cause from experience this repair PROBably is'ent gonna be cheap and I say this cause most repair centers wont even look at something like this for under 30 to 50 bucks. Good Luck
