Screen goes black for 4-5 seconds then comes back on

Go into the Catalyst Control Center and check "reduce DVI frequency on high-res displays" and leave "Alternate DVI operational mode" checked. This should resolve it. It is because of your video card that this problem is occurring. Let me know if you need additional help or if this doesn't fix your problem. Good Luck.

You've got it, one of the circuit boards has one or more failed capacitors.

If you decide to take it apart, check for capacitors with either a bulging top or a yellow stain underneath on the board itself.

Befored taking it apart, because you will, even if just slighty, damage the screen case, check your warranties. I had one pop recently, it had a 3 year - return to base warrany.

Ok try this, at boot up press F8, when the Menu comes up, choose Safe Mode, but this time instead of going to the desktop, choose System Restore, follow instructions, and when the Calender type window comes up, simply choose a time BEFORE, the time it went faulty. This should completely restore you to working again. As long as there are NO other problems.

Monitor going black

HP's are known for bad capacitors in the power supply.
Replacing them is simple if you know how..not so simple if you don't.
Try your local TV repair centre. It should not cost alot to have the capacitors replaced.

Hope it helps =)
