Epson printers have always been revered for their extremely high dpi resolution. This is what makes the output look so good. However, high resolution also means very small dot size, which equates to very small print head apertures. This can cause clogging and poor color distribution when it occurs. If you use you printer regularly (3-4 times a week at least), then you probably will never see the clogging issue. But is you don't use your printer very often, and especially if you turn it off after each time you use it, then you most likely are getting clogged print heads. Most newer printers want you to leave them on all the time, so that periodically, if you haven't used them is a certain time frame, they will run an auto-clean cycle to keep the print heads from clogging. Unfortunately, that also means that the unit is going thru ink at a rate that most users find unacceptable, so they resort to turning the unit off to save ink. This causes clogs, which can actually end up wasting more ink to fix than was saved by the shutting down process. It is all a way to sell more ink, since the printers themselves are usually sold at a loss. HP printers used to have ink cartridges with the print head built into it. That was nice, since if the heads clogged and could not be cleaned, you just bought another cartridge. These newer printers use a fixed print head with ink tanks. When they first came out, these tanks were cheaper than the other cartridges because they didn't need a print head in each one. But the greed of the companies eventually brought the prices up to the same level for either type. You will probably need to run one or more cleaning cycles to get the ink to work. If that fails, you should first replace the cartridges that are not working correctly. There are always some bad ones out there. If the problem persists, then repair or replacement is needed.

Hp c6180 states cartridges missing or damaged

OK now this might seem bizarre, but did you go ahead and click the "Black Only" print option?

I have a C6180. Just installed all new cartridges. Tried to print and got the message that Cyan is empty. Tried all sorts of things. Then out of frustration clicked the Black Onl option. Document came out printed in color! Double checked with a picture that has lots of cyan colors. It all printed too! Go figure.

My out of warranty l7680 will not print or photocopy in colour. Printhead status says Refilled supply Detected in printhead Black No/Yellow Yes Magenta Yes/Cyan Yes Detected in Printer Black No/Yellow Yes...

The error states that you are using non-HP cartridges for all colours. If black prints fine then you should replace the colour cartridges with genuine HP colour carts. You should be able to get a refund on the refills since they clearly do not work as intended.

Colour Ink Jet Cartridges emptying during a black ink print run

Hi,
If you go to your printer properties, there should be a setting whereby you have to select the option to "PRINT USING BLACK CARTRIDGE ONLY". Make sure this option is selected, otherwise your printer will use ALL colors even if you only print black.
Let me know if you need any further assistance.
Best wishes,

Very Faint Printouts

I find the best way to clean the heads is buy some cleaning cartridges as they have cleaning fluid in them and use them to clean it will take about 10 or more times to clean the heads then put the color ones back in and try again.
Just keep putting it on clean the head don't do a print out till at lest you have cleaned 10 or more times.

C7180 Print in color without all cartridges

You can usually print with an empty cartridge, even though the software will inform you that the cartridge is empty. Your print quality may be affected, however.

Hp 4600 no cyan printing

Firstoff, if you have tray 1 set to "any size" & "any type" they had problems with it going into calibration to frequently. If you upgrade the firmware this will take care of that. As for no Cyan, check the scanner interlock to insure it is opening the scanner cover. You could also go into diagnostics and disable cartridge check and swap the cartridges around, ie. cyan & magenta, run the print quality pages and see if the problem follows the cartridge. It could also be HV power supply.

Ink cartridge lights blinking

That is happening because you have "smart" chips on your cartridges, so even though you know there is still some ink left in the tank, if the chip says stop, the printer will stop printing. There is a way to bypass that and that is by using a re-setter. You can either buy one or ask to re-set your cartridge in a refill shop.
You can also try holding the "resume" button (triangle in circle for about 10 seconds for each cartridge, sometimes doing that resets the cartridges.
Do not refill the magenta and cyan cartridges if they are not empty, you'll just be wasting your money. Better use it to buy a re-setter ;)
Hope that will help!
