What are you using as a reference for "LST time"? I assume you're aware
that stands for "Local Sidereal Time", and not Local Standard Time; some
folks have confused the two. Do you have another method to calculate
Sidereal time for your location?

When you set Date and Time in the Setup menu, you need to use the time
from the "clock on the wall" without any mental adjustments for Daylight
Saving or Time Zone; those settings are made elsewhere. From your
description of the problem, it sounds like you have a time offset,
especially if your Site location values are fairly accurate.

Whether you use Zip Code or City sometimes depends on where you live
with respect to a particular city. If you live several miles from the
nearest city, Zip Code may be best .

The ETX125 is notorious for bad motor control. Weasner's Mighty ETX web site has links to repair centers that are more reasonable than Meade. They also have a QA section to assist with diagnostics.

The AZ worm gear is not engaging the gears. There is a spring next to the gear which applies pressure -- open up the base and see if the spring is loose or broken.

Can't see anything through the viewfinder, only when I remove the cap for the camera T does light pass through the tube. NO view through the eyepiece at all, only through the open T adapter hole.

There is a small mirror in the back with a knob there that you turn-- one way is for the rear port view the other way if for the top eyepiece view.

Here is the manual--

I have an ETX 80 and the motor runs but does not raise the tube, it lowers it and it slews left/right. Any ideas as to the problem. Many thanks in advance!!!

Is the clutch knob tight? If it is then something is broken inside the DEC clutch, causing it to slip.

Meade can repair these -- call customer service:

Yes under the rubber feet on the bottom are three screws -- take them out and you can get into the bottom. peel of the rubber feet to expose the screws.

Are you using FRESH batteries? Did you do a Calibrate Motors?

If new batteries and a Calibrate motors does NOT fix it, then something mechanical is broke inside the base of the telescope. Meade can repair these:

ETX-80 hand controller say's "Self Check Failed"

You may need to reload the firmware by following these instructions for Safe Load:

From the Autostar 2.0 README file: "SAFE LOADER MODE IN YOUR Autostar:
If the firmware in your Autostar crashes and you cannot access the "DOWNLOAD" menu item on your handbox, you can use the "SAFE LOADER" feature of your new Autostar software (version release 1.1G and above). To get into the safe loader, follow these simple steps: 1. Make sure the Autostar and ETX are turned off.
2. Press and hold the "ENTER" key and the Scroll Down Key located to the right of the help key on the Autostar handbox.
3. While depressing both keys, turn on your Autostar power switch. This will require you using both hands.

You should see "FLASH LOAD READY" on your display. This indicates that you can proceed to Update new software to your Autostar."

This is for the 497 controller. There is NO safe load for the 494 controller.

Need instruction manual for 1996 or 1997 etx 90 basic model

The manuals are all available to download from www.meade.com.

If your scope has the motor drives and a control panel into which a controller could be plugged, then you just need to buy an Autostar 497 - always available on eBay for about £85. However, there are older models of the ETX which only have one motor or as a spotting scope for terrrestrial use with no motors - Autostar cannot be connected to these.

Look at the pictures of scopes on eBay which come with Autostar - if your looks like these, Autostar will fit. Else you are out of luck!
