Hey there! I understand that you're having trouble turning off the Denon AVR 1708 due to the panel lock. To disable the panel lock, you may need to follow some specific steps. Have you tried pressing and holding the "Panel Lock" button on the receiver's front panel for a few seconds? This should unlock the panel and allow you to turn off the system. If that doesn't work, please consult the user manual or reach out to Denon customer support for further assistance. They'll be able to guide you through the process and help you resolve the issue.

Unlock procedure and to override the password lock to many popular brand TVs are given.
It sounds as if the thermocouple is bad. You can try and clean it 1st but if it is very old I would recommend replacing it. I just got 1 from Amazon it was less than 8 dollars.

Denon panel lock was not supposed to be supported on this model, somehow yours is. We need to reset the microprossessor.
as denon manual states:
switch off the unit by pressing power.
keep both speaker a and b pressed and turn on the unit by pressing power.
check that the entire display is flashin at 1 sec intervals and release buttons.
the mircoprossor has been reset.
if step 3 does not work start over again.
the receiver will go back to factory defaults.
let us know if further troubleshooting is needed.
Receiver turns on Green but on pressing button again for red light standby, red light will not come on for this Denon receiver. Recently light came on saying Panel Lock is on. I was not able to get tuner to work.
