SOURCE: washer spins slowly & won't drain
Look at the bottom of the front panel. There on either side is a philips head screw. removing these will release the front panel. the upper part may have spring clips to the top. clearly it is nearly impossible for a sock to get stuck in the pump as the water drains out through all them tiny holes in the drum. look for a broken belt. there should be two of them. the motor is in the left front portion of the washer and is spring loaded to push out from the center.

SOURCE: Water Leak from the Front Door of our Maytag Epic MFW9700S
The water leaking is most likely the gasket. It may have a little rip or something making it not seal. Im not sure about Maytag but on our GE we had to slide the the top back to remove some screws then (I believe to was for the control panel) Then we removed screws for the door and the front of the washer. When that was done you have to remove a round clamp that holds the gasket on. Then replace the gasket.
My suggestion is to have a appliance repair come and do it. Its a pain to do, at least it was for me.

The rug backing may have gone into the pump (the white motor thing) you might take the motor out and flush it out if it is clear and it still won't pump out the pump needs replaced.
