Did you move or bump the TV? That can cause misalignment. Did anyone fool with the setup? Get the manual and run through that again. Did you change input source (IE new DVD player, etc)? There is a setup (usually in menu) for slight adjustments to picture in most TVs, like on computer screens adjustments if you ever have done that. RTFM

Mitsubishi dlp tv picture is getting darker

One of two possible issues:

1. Lamp is nearing end of life and may dim just before total failure.

2. A few of these models have 2 mirrors(check with Mitsubishi to see if yours is one) A large mirror in back (never gives a problem and do not try to clean it. Some idiot in these sets used a small mirror inside that the optical unit shines the picture into (wedge shaped mirror and small) and it is facing up----the fans intake air from the front of the set around this mirror--it gets coated with lots of dust---Picture can loose up to 70% of its brightness and clarity if that mirror is dirty--looks like 20 year old set .

If you do not wish to check with Mitsubishi GOOGLE THE MODEL NUMBER with "mirrors" to see.

If it has 2 mirrors I can tell you exactly how to get at it.

Just tonight we were watching TV and the screen got darker. Picture is still fine, just got darker, on some channels the top and bottom center bow in toward the center a little, easy fix or a lot of...

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

The top and right side of the picture have a darker picture like in a shadow. about 3 in on top and 3 inches on the right

Richard, I've heard it's a mirror issue. I've got the same problem, but mine started in the upper-left, moved both to the right and down.

Dark band on left side, Samsung HL-R5668W

the reflecting mirror is likely loose and falling down inside the light reflecting tube. you should have seen the band getting darker and larger,
the small mirror is in front of the lamp and bends the light,
remove the lamp and look down the tube (light path)

Convergence

If the CRT Projection television has several colors or one that arent lining up, if due to an impact - you may have a broken mirror, if just happened all by itsself it may be a convergence issue, either issue is repairable, probably for around $400-$500. I dont recommend taking a set like that into the shop as sometimes transport can break/crack a mirror or throw convergence off.
