Washer won't spin. Motor goes thru cycle but not spinning

Hi Patty, I'm sorry to hear that your washer isn't spinning. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not an expert in appliance repair, but I imagine many experts would be willing to consult with you for free over the phone at least. Have you tried looking up an appliance repair shop in your area? You could probably just google it and find a few options near you to call and ask.

Patty, I'm sorry that your washer won't spin. My sister is having a similar issue with her washer. The motor is going but not spinning. Hopefully, it's just needing a new part. Finding the right parts might fix the issue, but I'd consult with a professional. http://ea-part.com/

New washers have DC current motors now.. It is possible that the circuit board is gone out for it to go into spin mode..

Motor Coupling If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and transmission.

Drive Belt If the washer won't spin or agitate, check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't spin or agitate properly.

Drive Motor If the washer won't spin or agitate the drive motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor is visibly burned out or physically damaged, replace it.
Stator Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the stator assembly might be burned out. The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often misdiagnosed.

Door or Lid Latch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Motor Control Board If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.

My Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washer goes thru all cycles but will not spin, so clothes are wet. We replaced the motor coupler but will only spin without clothes. Once you put clothes in the tub does

sounds like direct drive gears are bad.. there is a slip coupling that goes over the shaft of the transmission adn assist turning the tub that could be worn or broken. you will have to remove the agitator and check the nut on top of the tub to see if it is tight or to remove the nut and check that coupling.

If you have a direct drive washer made by Whirlpool, your washer transmission has what is called a neutral drain built into it. It is designed to pump water out before it starts to spin. After water has drained out, the timer has a pause in it where motor shuts off for about 5 seconds. When motor comes back on, transmission is then in gear to spin. If timer never pauses, then washer never goes in gear to spin. Timer is most likely defective.

pull the washer out a little awy from the wall, tilt it back so the top rests on the wall, feel around behind the motor,it sounds like the tranny is going and you might find oil around near the back of the motor where the coupling is,also check the coupling,it's behind the motor,it hits the tranny to and when the motor spins it spins the tranny,i've seen the middle of the coupling wear out just catching and if you help it out it will spin but it sounds like the transmission is bad,it's not hard to change it out.send the model number,i can look up your machine, tell you how much a new tranny is and tell you how to change it out,or replace the washer if it's old and put the money into a new washer
