Sounds like you've got something loose or broken inside the remote, open it and take a look, you may also have the rubber gasket that is not properly seating between the remote halves, also check to see if all buttons are fitting in properly. If inside is broken or loose may need replacement, only obtainable from dealer.
2000 Avalon keyless remotes stopped working: solution Both keyless remotes for my 2000 Avalon stopped working. The batteries were good (I checked them with a volt-ohm meter). The Toyota dealer determined that the remote used most was defective and it tried to initialize the receiver in the car. This caused the second remote also not to work. The dealer reset the receiver (reinitialized it after first unplugging it), replaced the defective remote with a new one, and reprogrammed both remotes. Total cost: $225 labor, 164 for new remote. Later, another remote went bad. I just stopped using it.
stop by a chevy dealer and ask them to test your remote. often the contacts in the remote get corroded and crudded up so a new battery will not make it work. if the remote does not test good , then you can buy a replacement on eBay or just take that one apart and clean it. if you get a replacement, your car will have to be reset to work with it, expect there to be a charge for that service.
If the keyless remote works to unlock and lock the doors, then it should start the engine. In order to use this feature, you have to lock the doors (make sure that all door lock by pushing the lock button twice) with the remote by pushing the lock button, then you hold down the start button on the remote for 2 to 3 seconds and it should start. You can start and stop the engine with the remote 2 or 3 times with the remote, after that it will no longer let you use the remote start until you physically get in the car and start the engine to reset the system. Check your driver information center options using the steering wheel controls. There is an option to enable and disable the remote start option.
Check your manual that came with the car, there should be a reprogamming sequence in there. Otherwise, is the car still under warranty? Go to the dealer and have them check it out. It may be the receiver on the car that is malfunctioning. Do you have a second set of keys? Does that set work correctly?
