Sony icf sw7600gr won't power up on battery power and showing exhausted battery symbol, only on ac adapter will work
Hi there guys, my Sony icf 7600gr stopped working on battery power when I took out the rechargeable batteries to top them up on charge, no battery symbol had come up at this point.
I put them back in after charging and got an wxhausted battery symbol on screen and the radio won't turn on.
I went and bought new Duracell batteries, installed them, no difference.
Battery compartment is like new, terminals are all good and a 6v supply to the board is present.
The radio is only a year old, so I'm disappointed as I have got rid of my 7600D for this new radio,
If anyone can help me get this radio going again I'd very much appreciate it as I love it and love shortwave listening,
Many thanks in advance
Best regards
Calvin
Hey guys, just wanted to give an update, found the problem, the solution was the yellow ad adpapter connection in the radio, either side of the centre positive contact there are 2 contacts. These were stuck, I got a pin and pushed these in and out gently, didn't work yet, then I put the adapter plug in tapped it and it freed out the contacts problem solved hope this helps anyone stuck
Best regards,
Calvin
I have the same problem. The back is removed and I am looking but do not understand. Could you post photos or even a video of the parts and process? I would be so delighted to get mine working again!I have the same problem. The back is removed and I am looking but do not understand. Could you post photos or even a video of the parts and process? Recently I found a Sony ICF 7600GR with same issue.... Radio runs full volume.. can't be controlled... Found a SMD package capacitor C252 ,1uf was short.. 1.2Volt was missing on pin number 14 of IC 203
Check these voltages of IC 203 ( CXA1522P) Pin -15 Voltage is 1.3V Pin -14 voltage is 1.2V then" No/low Volume". Pin -14 voltage is below 0.5 then "Full Volume ".
By varying volume control (RV204 , 50K) , Pin number 14 of IC 203 must vary between 0.3V to 1.2V.
I have the exact same problem here in Europe with my perfectly with my Sony shortwave after 18 years. If I fiddle with the ac adaptor in the radio plug, it works for a while. I have replaced and soldered the yellow tip adaptor twice in 18 years and hopefully the problem is with the power plug and not the radio plug.
Any help is appreciated.
A transformer type (Linear Mode Power Supply) AC to DC power adapter with a 9.V nominal output, measures about 12.V without load when tested with a multimeter. A power adapter with a nominal output of 7.5 V, measures a little over 9.V. Considering a number of people across different forums reported the adapter's measured power output as 12.V, I think the nominal rating of the AC to DC adapter should be 9.V. However, keep away from Switch Mode Power Supplies.
If the radio does not work with headphone then the external jack for audio may have broken loose from it's soldered points. Simple re solder may make the repair. Beyond that it would have to be diagnosed by a technician.
