While replacing a dlp chip on a Samsung, 2 of the screws with springs on them stripped out. . Are they needed and if so , how do I repair them?

Take the back off of the set. Pull the light engine out enough that you can get a screw driver in the back of it. Right in the middle you will see a spring clamp. Take it off and the 4 screws around it. Pull the heat sink off. Now you see the board and the chip. Take the board out and slowly remove the chip. Put the new chip in and go in reverse order. Be carefull of the screws with spring in them. The springs like to fly accross the room.

you will need the service info to dissassemble the Set and the DMD chip is usually held in with screws or clamps depending on chassis design. You can get the service info from www.servicemanuals.vstore.ca delivered by download link.

The DLP chip is failing, causing white dots to be displayed. This is a common problem for Samsung DLP tv's. Depending on who repairs the unit, you can expect to pay around $300.00 just for the chip, plus 1-2 hours labor.

DLP/mirror chip is going bad. A common problem on Sammy TVs after 2-3 years. Chip is user replaceable (try samsungparts.com or ebay) for about $150-200. Sammy was (last year) repairing the DLP White Spot problem for free. You MUST talk to ECR (executive customer service) to even think about getting that consideration--forget the standard CS people. Don't know if they are still covering this out of warranty in 2010.

The random whit dots you are seeing is more than not the DMD or million little mirrors board. The white spots represent some of the mirrors that are sticking in the on position. In that case they are always reflecting white light from the lamp. I don't concider the DMD board a do it yourself repair since on the older DLP set it requires mechanical alignment as well. The best thing to do is contact a techincian and see what they might charge to repair the TV for you. Please take a few moments to rate my answer...Thanks..

You get white spots inside the samsung DLP tv due to bad Digital Micromiror Device , or bad DMD board .

What is actually the problem is the DMV chip connected to this board . Inside this chip are 3 million tiny mirrors ,and when they physically get stuck , they either show black or white instead of a color
This is well know problem with SAMSUNG DLP...

The DMD chip is failing.If not under warranty expect to pay a few hundred to several hundred to get it fixed

The mirrors on the DLP chip are slowly sticking either fully open (white) or fully closed (black). The part that contains the DLP chip is the Light Engine. It is the most expensive part of the TV.Only the Samsung TVs has this issue.

Replacing the DLP chip and the micro mirror would solve this issue...

i think you do have a DLP Television because this happens a lot whit samsun DPL White spots in the screen.
