Remove battery from remote and you should see 4 small switches. Write down the pattern they are in now. Then move them to a new pattern. Then take the bezel off of the fan (where the fan connects to the ceiling). Turn the bezel counterclockwise if you don't see any screws holding it on. Now look for a set of switches that look the same as the switches in the remote. Write down their current pattern. Now Set the switches to a similar pattern as you set on the remote.
If the remote doesn't work after adjusting, set them back to original positions from the notes you kept.
Good luck
Do you mean the numeric keypad is no longer controlling the garage door? If so, have you changed the battery for the keypad? Frequently, if the battery is low, the keypad will stop working when the door is closed but works to close an open door. On most Chamberlain garage door openers, this is a 9V battery. You may need a small Philips screw driver to open the battery compartment at the bottom of the keypad.
After changing the battery, try the learn code procedure again. I've found it easiest to have two people involved when programming the keypad to the garage door opener. One handles the Learn button and the other types in the desired code.
First, be sure you did not change one of the dip switches in the hand held unit while changing batteries. You would have to see if the switches in the hand held unit match the switch positions in the fan receiver.
This is one of the many sites you can go to for remotes:

Hampton Bay fans are sold exclusively by Home Depot. I would check on line or stop by one of their stores to see if you can pick up a HB remote.
Once you get a new remote you have to again make sure the dip switches are in the same position.

in many of these remote controlled lamps you cant use the new spiral light bulbs .. you can only use standard incandescent lights .. if thats not the trouble then you may indeed have a bad controller (in the fan) .. there is probably at least a 90 day warranty maybe as much as 3 years .. make sure the wire nut power connections are secure inside the fan.. if one of the the wires in the fan are not making contact then you will see a similar problem .. once in a while i have seen strong external RF signals interfere with the controller but thats rare and usually doesnt last long ..
i would : 1. check all the connections .. 2. replace the light bulb to make sure its not flakey or the wrong type .. 3. try to get the fan replaced in warranty ..
Try spraying a compressed air can (computer cleaner) under the brush compartment (under the yellow housing). There are sensors and other wires underneath.
