Re: Model dc164. How do I view photos without memory...
That model uses a DVDR/RW type discs plus a memory card (SD, MMC or Sony Memory Sticks). To view photos from the disc simply go into view mode and use the joystick to move to the image you want to view. If you want to transfer images you need the USB cable that came with it and the original software to transfer images from the disc. While capturing video you can snap images but only to a memory card/stick. No card/stick while shooting video, then nothing was captured and the only way you can get any images is transferring a frame(s) from the video using the USB cable and their included software.
Here are links to the manufacturer website where you can still download the software that came with that model and a second link to view/save the manual in PDF format. Information to read in the manual are on pages 95 & 108.

Are you sure your memory card is still functional? Are you sure there is one memory card inside?
This is what I suggest:
If you can't view any picture in the camera, try to rescue the pictures with when it is connected with a USB cable to a computer or with a card reader on your computer. Then make sure your battery is still ok.
Then when the memory card is out of the camera, clean the contacts, by rubbing them with a dry cloth. Place the card back in the camera and do a format of the memory card. Don't do a format, before you have all the pictures from the card on your computer or another save place. Make it a habit to save the pictures you take on a computer and on an external medium. Can be an external drive or a CD or DVD. One backup is most of the time not enough.
ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos to your computer. Then you can view them on the computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

If you are using only the camera's internal memory, or if you are using a memory card, try to delete all images. You have probably already tried this so also try to 'format' the internal memory, or card, by using the camera's menus.
The method will be something like this:- In the Review menu, Setup> Format
If you are using a memory card and this does not work, then put the memory card into a PC or into a card reader and right click on the card's icon in the My Computer screen, to bring up the format options. Then re-format the card in the camera to ensure compatibility.
Depending on the model camera, go into the menu - either the "play" menu or "setup" menu and you will find a transfer mode if your camera has internal storage for more than one pic. Use that mode to transfer to a card or the computer.
Usually the only time this message will appear is when you have taken the picture with another camera and try to review it on another. If this is not the issue, try formatting your card. Try another card. It may be a faulty memory card. If none of this works, call Canon tech support for free support.
