GE Top Load Washer 10 yrs. old, used for 3 years, stored after that

Mine is 10 yrs old and I am just now having a problem. Clothes are too damp after last spin cycle. Hopefully, I'll get an answer here soon. Another problem I noticed a few months after I got it, with this model, is the fabric softener dispenser on top of the agitator. You have to remove it every single time and clean it. I added a little water to it before adding fabric softener and thought that would help to stretch the cleaning to maybe once or twice a week. Don't do it! I started to smell mildew and found out why. The agitator shaft that this dispenser sits on was caked with old fabric softener. I just use the blue Downey ball now. The fabric dispenser stinks but I have had 10 yrs of good washing.

The "Metallic banging/clicking" sound you hear is the Shifter mechanism engaging or disengaging.
The drive system will engage at the start of the Agitate Cycle and disengage when the Agitate Cycle is complete. This occurs multiple times during the wash. GE claims this is a normal sound and should not be concerned about it. its the brushes on your motor or your pump is blocked or defective

look in your basket of washer see if you see anything stuck in the hole ok

It most likely has a bad door safty switch. This goes out and the cycles will not run.

take the front off the washer take the two hoses off the pump youll probably find where its stopped up

2 clips 1 one each upper corner about 3 ins in use putty knife to release clips pull panel forward at top and lift off

Renee, after you hit your wash cycle selection does the washer begin to fill with water and rotate the wash basket? I need to know what does work , it will tell me what does not. capnhook

sounds like the agitator is bad not hard to replace look up on internet agitator replacement for that model
