It is not the remote. Took remote to Best Buy and the remote worked on another tv.
Hi,
use a phone camera and look at the front emitter LED the camera will show the invisible output as white light, if you indeed have output showing you can be reasonably sure the remote is working, here is a link for IR sensors on the plus side they all plug into the set with no soldering and just one screw.

Make sure the remote is set to operate your tv and not a cable box or accesory. It's in the menu
SOURCE: Remote sensor on TV (LG 42PM1MA) seems to be broken.
Have the technician check for 5 volts on the remote IR Sensor if present the the Remote sensor has failed. Have him replace it to factory Spec's. No need to replace entire main board when the sensor is no more 5 dollars....
Testimonial: "Thanks a lot. Seems you've done this yourself :)"
SOURCE: Does the LG 42LH30 (HDTV) have an auxilary audio output?
I can't find the RCA jacks the last guy referred to on the LG 42LH30. The only out I can find is an optical out, and I need RCA outs for the new wireless headphones I just bought

sparrow00, your fix worked for me, and I think I know why. The 1/8" remote input jack on the back of the TV has electrical contacts inside that are probably there to sense the presence of a plug-in remote. When they detect the insertion of this plug they disable the front panel IR (infrared) receiver and the TV only responds to this plugged-in remote and the buttons on the TV itself. After some period of time these contacts get corroded and the circuit is no longer completed between them. The TV now thinks an external remote is plugged in, and it ignores its own front panel IR receiver.
When you plug a 1/8" plug into this remote socket on the back of the TV it wipes away the corrosion. When you remove the plug the internal contacts conduct properly again and the TV responds to its front panel IR receiver. For best results you should plug a 1/8" headphone plug into this remote jack and twist it a few times, then pull it out and repeat several times. Repeat every frew months or whenever the TV acts up.
Thanks for your solution!

This only takes about a minute and will restart 1 in 3 "Dead" Original Remote Controls. Step 1- Pull the batteries out of the remote and leave them out until Step 4. Step 2- Press and release each and every button one at a time on the remote control until every button has been pressed and released at least once! Step 3- If your remote has slide switches, you must move the switch to Step 4- Put the batteries back into the remote, being very careful to install them correctly. Step 5- Try the remote. Special Note: If you have a digital camera, camcorder or camera phone you can test the remote to see if it is emitting a signal. Face the remote towards the lens of the digital unit until you can see the front of the remote. Depress any button on the remote. You should see a light (steady, blink or flashing) being emitted from the remote. (no light means bad remote) IF this does not work then;
each position then repeat the button pushing in Step 2.
(When you're done, be sure to put the slide switch in the correct position to operate the unit the remote came with!)
New batteries should be used if you're not sure about the old ones.
If you do then the problem might not be the remote but the sensor on the set.
you can turn the set off and unplug for about an hour to allow any EPROMs to reset. Next plug back in and try the remote.
If this does not work it
