Capacitors to fix dim display wave radio AWR1-1W

What capacitors need replacing to fix very dim display. Radio works fine, just can't make display brighter.

Thank You for all those answers. Display can be adjusted but extremely dim. Was told some capacitors needed replacement and want to know which would affect display brightness. With 50+ years an electronic repair technician I can easily repair this radio, just need to know which caps to replace. Thanks again.

SOURCE: My 10 year old Bose wave radio quit working.

There's a line fuse inside the radio, mounted on a PC board. CAUTION: disconnect the set from power before opening the case or poking around inside. The fuse could be bad, but these sets are notorious for losing the power transformer. If the fuse is ok then you are looking at a $100 repair fee from Bose. You might want to check out the new HD radios -- better sound, MUCH lower price.

Why doesnt my wave radio screen light up when the lights in theroom are on ?

That doesn't make sense does it? A few things first.... how bright are the lights in the room? Is the display of the WAVE facing the lights? The radio has a photo sensor that detects light, but for it to be effective, it has to "see" the light. It could be that you have a bad photo sensor, but I would try a few things first. 1. Make sure the light in the room is sufficiently bright. 2. Make sure the display is pointed in the direction of the light. 3. Make sure nothing is covering the photo sensor (like a piece of tape or something.... maybe a previous owner wanted to "turn off" the light". 4. If none of the above get you going, shine a flashlight at the photo sensor (a bright one). This should turn on the display. If this works (and nothing else did), that just means you ain't getting enough light to the sensor under your normal conditions and you will need to correct that underlying problem first,

Good luck!

How to keep the radio light on?

The sensor behind the plastic readout window needs to be exposed to a sufficient amount of light to alter the display brightness from dark room mode to bright room mode (dimmed display, bright display). Be sure sufficient light falls on the digital readout display when desiring the display to be at its bright mode setting.

I have an original Bose Wave radio. The clock digits now do not brighten during the daylight hours or when a light is turned at night, as they used to. If I look very closely, the digits are lit, but...

If you look closely you will find a light sensor on the outside - it looks round and has some squiggly red waves on it. It's probably bad and needs to be replaced. Its' purpose is to sense the ambient light, send a signal to the processor and vary the brightness of the display. Check also to see if it's blocked.

Radio display is not bright

Press and hold alarm time for about a second, then press your tune/playlist button until your bright hi or bright lo choices display, once you chose which lighting you want, do not press anything else. It will set to your last selection.

Radio is on but display is dimmed

Maybe, your radio is having problem with the connection. Check the connection of your radio whether it is properly connected or your give your radio to a repairer for proper servicing. So, the problem is of two types, (1) Connection of the radio to your car or (2) The radio needs to be serviced.

Oven digital lighted display is dim

You need to replace the C3 capacitor on the control board

http://fixitnow.com/wp/2009/01/28/cheap-fix-for-a-dim-display-on-an-oven-control-panel/

You can replace only the C3 - it is 68uF / 35V and you can go to Radio Shack and get their part # 272-1028 - 100uF/35V one. It takes all but 10 minutes to re-solder the new one in place

Dim display.

The display sits on a circuit board. Pull the board out and replace capacitor C3. It is 68 micro farads. I used a 47 from Radio Shack and it works great. If you can find a 68, that would be ok too, of course!
