Click Start/Control Panel andlook for the Mouse and open it to check the mouse properties. Make sureyou don't have the touchpad disabled.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad on or off by clicking on thebutton that is located at the top of the touch pad in the middle.

Some models will require a keystroke to toggle the touchpad. Press andHold the ALT or FN function key located at the lower left portion of thekeyboard, then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The correct key tohit will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square that represents thetouchpad.

Download and reinstall the touch pad drivers.Get online and got towww.google.com In the google search box type: "ASUS Support"(without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Every time I boot my EEE PC the touchopad is disabled. I plug in a USB mouse, enable the Elan smartpad through the properties of the Elan smartpad and it works ok until I reboot again. How do I enable it...

Usually there is a FN key that will enable the touchpad. I have EEPC and mine is the little blue FN key (usually next to the CTRL and Windows Key) + one of the number keys. Look for a little blue symbol that looks like your touchpad.

As for it being disabled every time you start, I find that very weird. Sometimes installing a wireless mouse, installs software that tells the system to disable the touchpad, so that the 2 don't conflict when using the mouse.

My elan touchpad is not working. the mouse will not move unless i plug in an external mouse

There is a FN + Key (F9 for me) Hotkey to disable the elan touchpad on ASUS Laptops.
This might be the problem if someone activated it by accident.
Also the correct drivers might be missing.
You can get the latest drivers on ASUS Homepage

I can not disable touchpad of INSPIRON 1545 of DELL Computers There is no option for disabling touch pad in the MOUSE option of Control Panel

Go to the Control Panel. Under the 'Hardware and Sound' options, click 'Mouse'immortal4u.png

Since you have a Dell laptop, you'll have a special tab called 'Dell touchpad' in the window that pops up. Click on the touchpad picture in the window.

In the new window that appears, click 'Device Select'
immortal4u_1.png

Click on the 'Disable' radio button to disable the touchpad completely. If you want to disable the touchpad of your Dell laptop only when an external device like a mouse is attached, check the last option that says 'Disable Touchpad/Pointing Stick when external USB mouse is present'

immortal4u_2.png

That's it. You've disabled your laptop's touchpad for good. If you don't find an option to manage your touchpad in Mouse settings, you have to install Synaptics drivers from here. Similar options can be found in other laptops as well.

Good luck ! if your problem is solved don't forget to rate

Asus touch pad too sensitive

There should be settings in the touch pad software on your machine or in the task bar that you can directly access to change all manner of personal idiosyncrasies related to HID. (Human interface device) Try also going into the control panel and looking for input devices, mouse, touchpad and adjusting the settings from within there.
