The Leica is such a good camera, I would entrust repair to a local Leica service centre, despite it being a point and shoot. Someone is selling one on eBay for $500! Did you try replacing the batteries? Leica Parts right down at the bottom.

The lens motor is defective, lens gears jammed. Fix is lens unit replacement.
The lens servo drive circuit is not functioning. Fix is to replace the circuit board that contains the lens servo control circuits.
The connector assembly between the lens is not making proper contact, or the lens wire assembly is defective. Fix is replacement of the cable and connectors if applicable in the particular model. If the connectors on the circuit board or lens are defective, then the appropriate unit must be replaced.
No power is going to the lens unit, and or the lens servo circuit. Fix is replacement of the drive circuit board, or the power inverter if it uses a separate feed for the lens only.
Generally, with these low cost cameras they generally do not pay to service out of warranty. The service cost can approach the cost of replacing the camera.
Common causes of failures in these cameras is from water (getting wet), or dropping, or rough usage.
I have VARIO-APO-ELMARIT-R 1:2.8/70-180mm, 11279. The manual states that camera can be used with APO-EXTENDER-R 2x 11262, so I would presume that newer 11269 would work as well. What does not work is
Leica APO-Extender-R 1.4x 11249 - physically protruding back assembly does not allow you to mate them together.
looks like the lens assembly servo mechanism is malfunctioning.
try to push the lens in manually-push down gently until in and power the camera after. If that does not help you will probably need to change the lens assembly (it should be done by a proffessional)
You can try to "fix" this problem by holding down the shutter release button as soon as the camera power up.If this does not work you will need to replace the lens assembly. This should only be done by a qualified tech.
This is usually caused by one of two circumstances. (1) The user dropped the camera while the lens was extended causing a mechanical failure. (2) The lens attempts to extend while in a pouch or pocket without the user's knowledge. This usually happens when the user is carrying the camera with the battery in. When/if the REC button or power button is pressed accidentally, the lens will attempt to extend but can't. This causes the servo motors to "smoke".
hi, your camera needs cleaning of lens and lens shutter; because some time dust particles gose inside and effect the alignment of lens and cause camera not working.
please give me good rating if the solution works Thanks for using FixYa.
To my regret,it seems like a problem with the lens servo motor. The lens unit can become damaged if it's opened while it was in your pocket, or in its case. The power button gets pressed and the lens attempts to extend, the lens gets jammed and the servo motors is damaged.
This problem should be repaired by a certified technician.
