Which kindle is it? paperwhite? or fire? to reset a fire Most android devices can be put into safe mode. to do this "press the power button to turn it off" when the box opens up on the screen which says Restart power off or airplane mode. press and hold the power icon till a box opens that says "Reboot to safe mode" or cancel. since you want it off press cancel.
This will turn on the Wi-Fi transceiver. In the Wi-Fi Networks section right below the Airplane Mode section you will see available Wi-Fi networks. Click the little black triangle, choose your network and enter the password. It will only automatically connect to open networks. Most networks these days are *secured* and need a password in order to share data.

Kindle DX, Kindle 2 or Kindle 3: This is easy - just hold the power button (next to the headphone jack) for 15 seconds and the device will reboot.
Reset Kindle 1: This is trickier as you'll first have to remove the back cover; you'll also need a paperclip.
To reset/reboot your Kindle Fire:
-With the Fire charged but unplugged from the charger, press and hold the power button for a full 20 seconds.
-When the Fire cycles off completely, press the power button once to turn it back on.
The Kindle Fire Series 2 Tablet Demo Model number ZHS-1013 is locked down. These Kindle's are unbreakable, period. My development team has spent days trying to break into the demo units. We had limited success with extensive work and was only able to obtain Root after replacing the SD Card, which is a very difficult process. We used our package Kindle Fire First Aide for the process which is designed to do several different tasks on the Kindle including Root, full system restore and has scripts to reboot any Kindle Fire Series Two tablet into Fastboot (except a demo model released in the last 3 months). If you have any questions feel free to ask us additional questions. Best Regards, Chris Bryant - Prokennexusa @ XDA Developers
If I understand you correctly, the Kindle is stuck in Freetime even if you reboot the Device.
1. Press and hold the power button for 30 full seconds 2. Wait 5 seconds 3. Press and release the power button normally, the Kindle should have exited Kindle Free time. 4. If the Kindle is still not exiting Freetime, proceed with a Factory Reset.
Step 1: Remove any old connections in the Tablet by Long Press Forget Connection Step 2: Reboot your Wireless Router Step 3: Attempt to connect again Step 4: If this fails, log into the Wireless router and charge the authentication mode from whatever you have now to WPA Personal and enter a Passphrase you can remember Step 5: Connect to your Wireless using the new Passphrase
Hold the power button to the right for 30 seconds. (Time them- not "One thousand one, one thousand two, ect." because this isn't precise enough.) This will reboot the Kindle and it should work. The reboot may take a while if it has been a long time since your last reboot.
