1. It obviously has to have a digital tuner fitted and I assume it has.
2. You perhaps are not following the correct procedure for setting up the TV to scan the spectrum and lock in the channels one by one. There should be an automatic station tuning feature for the TV which you set up and let run as will be explained in the user guide/manual.
3. There is a possible problem with your antenna or antenna connections but if you had no problems with a previous TV picking up digital channels it will not be the antenna.

Which model Westinghouse TV do you have?

My jvc smart tv wont recognise my new western digital hard drive

Digital tvs are good at this. I had to buy a digital converter box to pick up over the air channels with a usb port on it, to play mine, you can pick up one on amazon for about 30 bucks. Make sure it has usb streaming port before you buy it!

I have a brand new technika tv 216/54g. It has freeview built in. I have a brand new indoor digital amplified aerial also technika but I cant get it to pick up any stations. Do I need anything else? please...

Hi there,

You don't necessarily need anything else, but you may not have a strong enough signal to pick up the digital/freeview channels using an indoor aerial. It could also be that the indoor aerial is not correctly aligned.

If the signal strength is lower than approx. 50%, the TV may detect them during the automatic channel scan but it wont store them. When the signal strength for any digital channel is 50% or lower it's more or less unwatchable - the picture would be constantly breaking-up or freezing and the audio drops out continually. Trying to scan for channels using an indoor aerial is rather hit and miss. Numerous attempts may be necessary before you get any channels.

Assuming you have a roof aerial, it is far easier to temporarily connect the TV to a fixed aerial point while you run the automatic channel scan. The TV will store all the channels and you can then move it to it's permanent location and connect the indoor aerial. You can then adjust the indoor aerial with the channels already stored until you find a location for the aerial where you have a good signal.

Doing it this way also eliminates the possibility of a fault with the TV and confirms that you are performing the channel scan correctly. If the TV is connected to a fixed aerial point and you are still unable to receive or store any channels, then it's likely that you are performing the channel scan incorrectly or there is a fault with the TV.

Please try scanning your channels using a known working fixed aerial point. If you are still unable
to receive any channels - or you don't have any fixed aerial points - please post back for further assistance.

Hope this helps.

BElectric

My Brand New 40" westing

To get HD channel form your cable TV without using the cable provider HD tuner box but using your TV Clear QAM tuner (your TV has Clear QAM tuner, my TV also has QAM tuner so I do not have to use the cabel box, but my COMCAST does not provide may Clear QAM signals like they use to) to get the unscrambled HD, the cable provider must provide those unscrambled Clear QAMsignals for your TV to pick up the signalS.
Learn more about Clear QAM cable signals:

Did you use the correct setup during the tuner setup to scan the availabel cable channel per user manual?

My VCR not recording after the switch to digital tv signal

The answer to this question can get a little complicated. Lets tackle it in two parts. First the last part; the part about picking up channels as decimals. With analog TV transmission, it took the full television broadcast channel to transmit one standard definition TV program. The newer digital transmission system uses some advanced video compression and audio compression technology to reduce the data needed to transmit the pictures and sound which allows the same bandwidth to deliver either High Definition Television programming or MULTIPLE channels of Standard Definition programs. So in your example above, you use to watch one channel of programming on TV channel 4, but now the TV station can broadcast multiple channels of programming on channel 4, sot they delineate the programs with a decimal point. So 4.1 it the first program on TV channel 4, 4.2 it the second program on TV channel 4..... Well, I hope you get the idea.

Now for the hard part of your question. I believe that before the transition, even with your new digital TV, you were still enjoying the analog broadcasts from your stations. Your VCR picked them up and recorded them and your digital TV could tune them in and you watched as you had always done in the past. After the transition you noticed that your VCR could not record anymore and your digital TV had discovered the digital channels that replace the analog channels. To remedy this situation, your VCR will need the aid of a DTV converter box to tune channels, and you may have to reconfigure the way your TV and VCR are connected. The best resource that I can give your for the reconnecting is the website http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/converterbox_vcr.html. How do I digitally tune my westinghouse TV SK32H24OS. Lost manua

The easiest way might be to unplug the power from the set for several minutes, plug it back in and then run through the setup procedure. You are specifically looking for the channel auto scan function.

I have a Westinghouse 26 inch TV. Model # SK-26H590D. It will not scan channel 9. I have tried both the automatic scan and the find channel scan. It is hooked to a Phillips Mant 510 vhf/uhf indoor antenna...

I carried my Westinghouse TV to the basement. Unplugged the antenna from the digital converter box and connected it to my digital TV. I then re-scanned for channels and found channel 9. After carrying the Westinghouse TV back upstairs, I connected the original set-up and tuned to channel 9 which was now showing on the screen as no signal. From that point I moved my VHF dipoles until I had located the correct position for reception. A little labor intensive, but I was fortunate to have another antenna that was receiving channel 9.

Westinghouse TX42F430S

Channels with a decimal are digital. You are probally getting the through the air. Currently mine are all the digital versions of the normal channel. Ie: 5.1 digita version of channel 5. Your's maybe different but if there over air it is probally a local station in digital and you should be happy.
