Error code F51-when performing the Rotor Position Sensor manual test, the hall sensors light up the indicators when I rotate the basket.

However, 2 indicators light at the same time (ie Wash, then Rinse, then Spin, then Wash Rinse). Is this correct operation? Should 2 indicators light up at the same time or should each indicator light up individually? This happens whether I rotate clockwise or counterclockwise.

SOURCE: F51 & F72 Codes

The F51 error code indicates that the control is not sensing proper motor movement through the signals from the RPS (rotor position sensor) circuit. This can be caused by several different problems. Make sure that you are not overloading the washer. Overloading can cause this problem. A toy or foreign object could be under the washer that is interfering with motor rotation. With the washer empty, spin the basket inside the washer tub to see if it spins relatively easily. If not, you could an item caught between the spin basket and the tub. You could have a wire harness problem causing signals to not be transmitted properly between the RPS and the machine control board. A failed RPS sensor or a failed control board could also cause this problem.

Basket Re-engagement Failure.

F then 72 flashes when the basket check routine fails to determine if the basket is re-engaged after being disengaged.
Is the basket floating? If yes, pump out water. See Long Drain.
Does basket turn freely? If not, determine cause of friction.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Cabrio Washer

The F50 error code indicates that the RPS (rotor position sensor) detects no motor rotation. Check to see if the basket spins freely. If not, you could have an item caught between the outer tub and the inner spin basket. A toy or other item underneath the washer could also prevent the basket from spinning and would result in this F50 code.

If the basket spins freely, you could have a wiring failure that would prevent the motor from spinning.

I have an error message f51 on my whirlpool cabrio washer model number WTW7600XW0, What is it and how can I fix this error on my own

F51 error code is a motor rotor position sensor failure or a lower harness problem. You need to check the motor in manual test mode, not automatic test mode. This will check the hall sensors and do a spin test: Be sure the washer is in standby mode (plugged in with all indicators off; or with only the Clothes Clean or Done indicator on). Select any one button (except POWER, START, STOP, and PAUSE/CANCEL) and follow the steps below, using the same button: Press/hold 3 seconds. Release for 3 seconds. Press/hold 3 seconds. Release for 3 seconds. Press/hold 3 seconds.

If this test mode has been entered successfully, all indicators on the console are illuminated for 5 seconds with 88 showing in the Estimated Time Remaining two-digit display. During the 5 second wait time with 88 showing in the display, press the same button once. You should be in manual test mode. If the button is not pressed within 5 seconds, the automatic test mode begins. The Rotor Position Sensor uses Wash, Rinse, and Spin indicators to detect the three hall sensors. Console can have up to two of these indicators on at the same time when the tub is not moving. Open the lid and rotate the basket by hand. The Wash, Rinse, and Spin indicators should toggle on and off according to the direction the tub is being turned.

SPIN TEST: Make sure lid is down. Press and release: 2nd RINSE or EXTRA RINSE. The lid locks and the lid lock indicator turns on. Press and release; SPIN SPEED, WATER LEVEL, or LOAD SIZE. The motor/basket spins at 23 rpm. Press again, motor /basket spins at 530 rpm. Press again, motor/basket spins at 950 rpm. Press again and motor turns off.

I have a Kenmore Elite top loading washing machine that gives me the error code F51 incessantly. Any idea what this means?

The F-51 error code on this washer indicates that the machine control board in the console detects a motor RPS (Rotor Position Sensor -- tachometer) failure. This can be caused by a number of different problems. You could have a bad RPS sensor, a failed motor, a wire harness connection problem or an item stuck between the spin basket and the outer tub that is interfering with spin basket rotation. A water filling problem could also cause this code to be displayed since the basket would have excessive friction if water is not entering the machine properly. With the washer off, spin the basket to see if it rotates freely. If you detect resistance or suspect that an item is stuck between the basket and the outer tub, you will likely need to remove the basket and check this area.

I have a Maytag Bravos washing machine that has just recently become really noisy when it goes into high speed spin. I have lifted the cover and found no items or debris. When I spin the tub by hand it...

Hi.

F51 is motor position sensor error. From manual:

F51: Motor RPS Failure
F then 51 flashes when there is a motor rotor position sensor (RPS) failure or lower harness problem.

The motor position sensor failure may be the result of a problem between basket and motor. The parts below the basket must be inspected. There is need to remove the basket to check parts in there. I can give you the procedure to remove the basket if you want.

What does F 51 mean?

The F51 fault code on your Cabrio washer indicates that the control board is not sensing the proper drive motor spin. To clear the fault code, press the Pause/Cancel button.

Make sure that the drain hose is not stuck way down the stand pipe. This can cause siphoning of fill water which will inhibit proper motor rotation.

Check to see if the wash basket spins freely. If it does not, you may have an item of clothing stuck between the outer tub and the inner basket. This restriction in rotation will also cause an F51 fault code.

If these tips do not help you resolve the F51 problem, then you probably have a component failure. Possible failures include: wire harness or wire connection problem between the machine control and the RPS sensor (Rotor Position Sensor), a failed RPS sensor, a failed drive motor, and a failed machine control board.

Will not spin code 51

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
This is the Cabrio washer. F51 fault code is likely the Rotor Position switch failure, located on the motor. Even though it might run, the Hall sensor inside it has gone out. The Cabrio manual is in the Online Repair manuals Forum which you may jump to from any page at the bottom right if you want to test motor resistance from the convenience of the console. Many people mistakenly replace the main control board in hopes of correcting this issue but it is actually a communications error between the Hall sensor and the main board.

There is a Rotor Position switch kit which should correct the problem, and comes with a new harness and excellent instructions. picure below :

the above link is for code 51, very similar. the quite above is from the PDF manual. I just solved this problem on my machine. turned out it was clothing between the 2 baskets. Others have had bad control boards, or bad sensors
