You can separate the troubleshooting into parts. Go to a place having a wi-fi internet hot-spot, like Starbucks or Gloria Jeans'. Assuming you are in the USA:

Get a coffee and turn your tablet wi-fi on. From

1. Go to Settings > WIRELESS & NETWORKS > Wi-Fi, and slide the Wi-Fi switch to the ON position.
2. The device will scan Wi-Fi networks automatically and display the available names.
• If the device finds a network that you connected to previously, it will connect to it automatically.
3. Tap a network name to connect to it. Tap 'Agree to conditions' if necessary.

You should then be able to go to a webpage. Once you get this bit working, you can turn to your home internet.

You need of course an account with an ISP, who will probably supply you with a gateway (modem/router). If you only have a modem (connection box to the ISP) that does not have a wi-fi capability, you will need to get a router (wi-fi broadcaster). These can be quite small and neat.

Connect the router (if you needed to get one) to the modem with an ethernet cable

and follow the setup instructions that came with it. Then do the same as in the cafe wi-fi hot spot. It should work.

You must have a wireless router, connected to the internet. then you have to setup the router and the wireless connection. Don't forget to setup a password protected connection with WEP2, or else someone else can use your connection and consume your data plan.

Unless you have a network cable plugged in that is the only way it will work.

After setting data and time you are not ready. You still have to install lots of apps, but first you should setup a (wireless) internet connection to your wireless router. If you don't own an wireless router and you don't have an internet conniption in your house, these things you have to install first.
While installing, setup a security login and write down the settings and password for your connection. You need that to connect your tablet.

Just a few questions.
is your computer connected to the internet with a wireless connection, or with a cable? Is the internet connection you see on the kindle, the name of your wireless router? Did you setup the wireless connection on your kindle, using your connection name (the name you gave in on the wireless router you own) and password.
If you answered one or more of these questions with a no, first solve or change that. When you don't have the answer, because you don't know, you have to asume it is a no.

open network connections on your laptop and select both the wireless adapter AND the internet connection adapter in there and right click on them and click bridge connections. Then go into the network setup wizard (XP) or network and sharing center and click connect to a network and choose adhoc connection. then open wireless settings on the coby kyros and connect to the adhoc connection on your laptop. You should then be able to connect to the internet on it
