How to install a door lock? - Freezers

check if noting broke in the door locking mechanic. Or check if not too much ice is pressing the door open.
But if you don't hear the click, check the lock.

Could be frozen. Use a hair dryer on the lock assembly and the edge of the lock. After it's hot, push the freezer door in and try the lock then.

Sounds like the freeze got locked...most freezers come with a door lock and a key...use your key to try to open the latch

Most upright freezers that I know of have a lock on the door. If there is a tiny hole 1/4" or less in the front surface of the door that has a chrome ring around it, It is a lock mechanism. Look in the envelope that includes your instructions, there may be a key in it. It may have been locked for shipping.
The other possibility is that there is a piece of some very strong fiber impregnated shipping tape strategically located so that it is difficult to see, keeping it closed.

Take a credit card and slide it around the door latch. Slightly pull on the door as your are doing this and it should release itself. Gently push the card and work it into the latch at a slight angle. Let me know if this works.

Check to see if the wood or the lock is binding. Try this:

Leave door open and turn on heat. After a few hours, try to close door and see if it's catching on the frame. If it is, plane the door where it is binding. You can check for binding by using chalk on the door and after closing it, see where the scrub marks are.

If it's the lock, take out the striker plate and using a chisel, make the cut out deeper. Install the striker plate and test it again.

Yes, you can put a lock. Visit your nearest locksmith shop and ask them. There are so many varieties of locks. The 4 1/2 keyed Hasp Lock Guard security can be used for this, it can be any other brand. It is a door security lock, the screws are small so nothing will hurt your freezer. Just ask a in a locksmith store. They will know which kind of lock to give you.
