Hi Anthony:
A 4 prong plug is intended to handle 220/240 volt and also 110.
It has:
- Red and Black - 110 each 220 total
- White (neutral)
- Green (ground)
You will need to shut off the circuit breaker for your receptacly and then determine what power supply you have available.
You MAY be able to change your receptacle to handle your appliance.
I would NOT change the plug on your appliance as it needs both the 110 and 220 functions.
If you are not ABSOLUTELY SURE what you are doing, get an electrician. Not doing it right could start a fire or present the danger of electrical shock. WHICH HAS THE POTENTIAL OF KILLING SOMEONE.

You can change the cord or the receptical...
It will be easier to change the cord...
Purchase a four prong plug cord that will fit into your receptical, then wire your dryer for 4 wire instead of three wire use.

Need to know the correct 3 prong power supply cord to use for a Maytag Atlantis dryer.

There are many different pattern plugs and recepticals.
It is impossible to tell you which power cord to buy.
What you will need to do is find out what the receptical for the dryer looks like and match the receptical with the power plug your going to purchase.
I will also include a link to show you how to hook up a 3 prong wire power plug.

Yes ... If I am going to plug in my $1500.00 laptop in to an outlet, I wait to charge or run, not cook. I don't know how you feel about that. Are you a USA resident? Are you using 110 VAC or 220 VAC? Plug your laptop in only if the power is known to you.

The best way to overcome this problem is to have an electrician update at least one outlet in each of your different homes to the standard, three prong plug, which was established in the USA more 40 years ago.

I have a 4 prong pigtail
Here is what I believe you have.

The 3 prong plug on your dryer is configured with 2 lines of power and 1 ground. The 4 prong receptical is 2 lines of power, 1 neutral, and 1 ground.
You will have to turn off the breaker to see how the receptical is wired by pulling it out and looking at it. You can then buy a 4 prong plug to match it and only wire up the 3 prongs you need for your dryer and leave the 4th prong empty.

1 coil heats, the other 3 don't
Take a flashlight & look into the receptical where the burners plug in. If it looks burned up, then you need to replace the recepticals(part #330031). If the burner prongs are burnt looking, they need to be filed clean or replace the burners too. If you plug burnt burner ends into a new receptical, it will burn the receptical in no time. Try spreading the prongs on the burners before plugging them back in to make a tighter contact.
