Want to use an external antenna that sits in my window
There is a problem with over simplifying this. Yes you can put rabbit ears on or a new "window HD" antenna. Those have a very limited range so if you are in a metropolitan area it will work fine if the antenna is optimally placed on the side of the house that the sending towers are on.
