SOURCE: Garage door won't close

your door travel screw is set to go too far on the downward travel. you need to set the down travel. It is set to go too far down. find the screw adjustment on the unit that says close and back off the screw a full turn until door stops short of floor. then start turning screw other way until door just touvhes floor.

Hello,

There should be 2 sensors on the bottom of your door on the inside, 1 on the right side and 1 on the left side.
These sensors serve 1 purpose to send a beam or reflection to each other.
If something is blocking this reflection or is in front of the sensor the door will always come back up.
It is a safety feature so nothing or no one gets hurt when the door is closing!

If any thing is blocking these sensors the door will not close! Make sure nothing is in the way not even a peice of paper.

SOURCE: My garage door opener won't close the garage door.

Most likely your door sensors have been bumped and are not aligned properly. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not blinking.

SOURCE: Remote Control closes garage door but does not open

It sounds like a case of your keypad losing signal strength enough that it cannot transmit through the closed door. If a new battery doesn't do the job a new keypad will.

To answer your question the opener is in vacation mode. Press and hold for 3 seconds the button on your wall control with the lock icon. The green light will stop flashing and you will be back in business.

I NEED THE MANUAL FOR MY STANLEY 8500.51 GARAGE DOOR IT WON'T CLOSE

Try searching around here to find similar or hopefully exact opener. Stanley no longer is in the garage door business, and the company that bought them out went bankrupt.
Good Luck

You could have a problem with the door which is causing the opener to kick into a safety mode. Release the door from the opener, run it by hand several times. If you feel it bind, figure out where it's binding and resolve that issue. Then reset your opener again and it should be fixed. If it is not binding, then most likely you have a board problem and will either need to replace the board or replace the opener. Stanley's are known for these type of board issues. I would stick to a liftmaster if you replace it.

You have shorted out your logic board. This could of been prevented with a surge protector 900 joules or higher. Whether you repair or replace get one. Stanley went out of business but you may still be able to find replacement parts online. Thanks BB

My stanley garage door opener motor runs but it won't open or close my door

If the motor runs and the chain does not then you have stripped the gears and will need to replace them. If the motor runs, the chain moves but the door does not move then the trolley is not attached or needs to be replaced. Thanks BB

Door opens on it own and light blinks

  • Stuck remote control button. Check all remotes. check LED on receiver.
  • Staples around Multi-Function Control Panel bell wire could be cutting into that wire. Remove wires from opener and test. Replace staples causing intermittent short.
  • Multi-Function Control Panel could have sticking door control push bar. Remove wires from control panel and test. Replace control panel if defective.
