Nope. hi8 was newer technology. hi8 camcorder could play older 8mm videos but not vice-versa. hi8 video has higher resolution then older 8mm

Playing back in the camera u recorded or another player. Make sure its a HI8 player otherwise the head could be dirty

Are u talking about a HI8 film or video???
For film u have to transfer it to dvd.
For HI8 video u need the HI8 camera

Hi8 takes hi8 tapes. Your particular model will be the variable to determine playback options. It probably has some type of RCA out that would let you view it on a tv.

From the info given, This looks like a Sony Hi8 video camera. You can get head cleaners from most electrical stores. I don't think it has to be a Hi8 cleaner, I think any 8mm video head cleaner should do. If no luck, try a Sony store or even ebay. Here's one :-

There is a broken plastic part inside the cassette and needs to be replaced. Mostly due to cassette tape improper position and camera jam (tape jam).

Hi8 camera has analog video signal / format and needs to be converted in digital format for PC storage /use.
Best option available is to hook up Hi8 camcorder with DVD recorder and burn movies on DVD. Now you have digital files of movies and can put in PC.

DCR TRV140E is a Digital8 camera
CCD TRV87E is a Hi8 camera,
(Hi8 is an analog format)
the tapes are the same size, wont help, the recording systems are not compatible
send them to a lab service ?maybe if there are only a few
or ebay a Hi8 camera and transcode them yourself

its not a solution, at least it clarifies the problem

My suggestion would be to find a retailer who transfers video tape to dvd. They use an actual machine to do this and it should recognize your tape. This might solve your problem.

may be your camera not design to play the analog tape...there are some model that can playback a analog tape...i think your camera is for digital playback only.... check your user manual
