Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis. http://electro-medical.blogspot.com/ http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

From what you've described, I can almost certainly say that you'll need to send the TV to a repairer for them to check it out. The popping noise could be the sound of a parts failure.
we cannot get a picture or sound on several channels. Otherwise the TV works fine. Any solutions?
as you get p&s on several channels so your ser is ok the problem
1 loose contact near tuner or it is defective.
2 tuner signal line .
Sorry bad news these TV's work off of lights that shine thru the back of the screen if you heard a pop it was the power board that turns on those lights not an easy fix sorry.
hi,
Check the lamp of you tv. The lam is burned. that's why you heared a pop up sound and burning smell. Just check it and replace it. you will get the picture back.
ok
You will need the y and x sustain boards replaced, possibly the buffers. very expensive repair. you can replace one board but its best to do all of them.
Usually, yes. A bulb that has audibly 'popped' will be apparently bad if you pull it out of the TV (shattered). Other times this is a lamp ballast board.
Well that pop had something to do with the power components inside the TV frying. I would have to say there is nothing you can do to repair it as its dangerous to work on such things. I wouln't waste my time bringing it to a repair shop they will probably tell you to just buy a new one.
